I'm sorry to hear about the bad news--these programs have many qualified applicants each year that they ultimately turn away. In your case, I believe your above average age and work experience (full time programs are seeking students with 3-8 years of work experience) were not working in your favor. Additionally, your GPA isn't bad, but would bring down either program's class average.
Did you explain your GPA in an additional essay? What was your storytelling like in your essays--Teach for India would've given you some fascinating stories to share, I imagine. I also am curious about how you connected to dots to show where you wanted to take your career post-MBA.
You would be a better candidate for an Executive MBA (given your work experience) or part time program--have you considered either?
