Basics:
Age: 27
Sex: Male
Race: Half white/ half chinese mix (I only speak English)
Nationality: USA
GMAT: 760 (97% verbal, 86% quant) 6.0 AWA
GPA: 3.0 at MIT in Civil Engineering
GPA description: I did terrible in engineering (I should have switched majors but it was too late), but took six business electives and earned 3.7. My GPA also improved from 2.7 to 3.2 from Freshman/soft to junior/senior.
GPA mitigants: Completed all 3 levels of CFA, took MBA accounting course at UConn and got an A
Background: Grew up in rural Northern California with a single mother on welfare (incorporated in my essays)
Work Experience (recent first):
-4 years of private equity fund-of-funds experience as an Associate at a top institutional investor, committed $668 million in total
-1 year of consulting for the defense sector at top-5 consulting firm, promoted rapidly
Note that I am positioning my work experience as Investment Management vs. PE (it could classify either way because I invest in private equity funds) because I hope the applicant pool is less strong in Investment Management than in PE
Extracurricular (very weak here):
-I am currently a part-time pro-bono strategic consulting for small non-profit organizations, worked on two projects in the last year
Goals:
-My current employer is a leader in corporate social responsibility in US and Europe, and I want to continue to help the investment management field develop in a socially responsible way
My reccs will likely be standard.
My profile evaluation questions:
1) What racial category will I be put in? White, Chinese, White & Chinese, other? Does it make sense to report my race? Do I have any flexibility here?
2) I am applying to six schools in Round 1: Columbia (Early Decision), Wharton, HBS, Booth, Yale and NYU. What are my chances of admission?
