Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to look over my profile. Any feedback is appreciated.
I ended up spending more time than I had planned preparing for the GMAT, and as a result will most likely be applying to most schools in Round 2.
Education
School: State school, not very prestigious
GPA: 3.5/4.0
Dual Major in Finance and International Business, with a Certificate (Minor) in Spanish
Took additional classes after graduation: Calc II & III, Intro to Fortran and Mathematical Models in Biology, Received As in most, believe I had a B in Calc III
GMAT
760 (Q:49, V:44) AWA: 6
Certification
Passed Levels I and II of the CFA on first attempt, have not registered for III and given career goals uncertain if I ever will
Work Experience
3 years in a small non Profit
Began as a volunteer with the non profit during college, from there received a job developing finance curriculum, working with industry professionals and Professors from around the country.
Have since been promoted twice, once to project director and currently the vice President and a Board Member of the non profit. I would describe the non profit as being most similar to a start up given out limited resources Job duties have ranged from renovating our office to meeting with the CIO and Trustees for the states Public Retirement fund. Significant examples of leadership at work. Not sure how useful it is, but due to the nature of the non profit I am proficient in Financial Modeling, using Bloomberg, Financial statement analysis, and knowledgeable about capital markets.
Work as a Lecturer for the local community college, teaching a class that is part of my non profits program and was articulated with the college.
Extra Curricular/Community Service
Not much extra in College, was a member of a Business Honor Society, spent a summer abroad and volunteered at the non profit I currently work at.
Currently mentor high school seniors, typically 3-5 a year, helping them complete a senior project and plan the transition from graduation to College and then a career in their desired field.
This is where I believe my Application is the weakest, unfortunately most of my time is taken up with work, despite being a non profit I still end up working 80-90 hours, 7 days a week.
Post MBA Goals
Would like to make the transition from the non profit world into Investment Banking (M&A) and eventually Private Equity. The hope is to gain significant experience int he field so 10-15 years down the road I can return home and establish a Community Development Venture Capital (CDVC) fund which will serve business in the community that are under served by traditional financing. The CDVC would also be used as a teaching tool allowing college students interested in a career in venture capital or Private Equity to gain live deal experience.
Target Programs
Currently Targeting: Wharton, Columbia, NYU, & Yale
I am not sure if these schools are attainable, specifically Wharton and Columbia. I would like to consider Booth or Tuck (which I realize or two very different schools) but am unsure given the weakness of my Undergraduate school, my lower GPA (I didnt really apply myself until Junior year) and my lack of extracurricular activities and community service.
Again, thank you for taking the time to evaluate my profile, and I apologize if this ended up being a bit long.
