Hello there,
Would really appreciate it if you could review below and give some feedback:
- Gender: Male
- Race: Asian (South Korean)
- Age: 29~30 at application
- GMAT: 750 (50Q, 41V)
- Undergraduate GPA: 3.92
- Undergraduate School: George Fox University (in Oregon)
- Undergraduate Concentration: Double Major in Accounting & Finance
- Work Experience at application: 3yrs (at the time of application)
- Work Experience/Industry: Willis Group, Korea office (One of the top 3 global insurance brokers) - Retail Insurance Broker (19 months - handling insurance for MNCs operating in Korea)
Reinsurance Broker (17 months -handling large sized Korean Interest Insurance Policies to overseas reinsurance markets)
- Other Experience: Mandatory Korean Army Military Service (2 yrs) / Avid member of local Racquetball club / Some local church community services
- Post-Graduation Job Focus: Reinsurance Underwriter or Actuary at major reinsurance companies (would look for jobs in the U.S too but realistically will focus on jobs at Singapore reinsurance market as it is the regional hub for Asian market)
- Target Schools - Top 10 b-schools, with Wharton being the 1st Choice for their Risk Management Concentration
- Questions:
1. What do you think the chances are for Wharton and other top schools?
Are there any other schools I should be looking into?
2. I personally feel that my non-work experience / extra curricular activities are relatively weak... Do you think there are any improvements I should be making from now to the time of application?
Thank You very much in advance!
Hey there dude,
Good to hear from you. First of all, congrats on that stellar GMAT! That, with your fantastic GPA, will be a nice one-two to get you in, even if your school isn't an ivy

...
Overall, I think you can apply to Top 10 schools, even if your extra currics are weak. One good thing is that as a Korean you have that Army experience, and you can lean heavy on that for stories to build some diversity in your profile, beyond your insurance experience. I mean that, plus squeeze the most out of racquetball and church and you should be fine.
Where should you apply? Well, any of the Top schools are always good. With your experience, a risk management specialization is nice, but I'm not sure it's necessary... what you need is the time off and the prestige of a good program. Given your goals however, I would also look into INSEAD. If you know you want to work in Asia, esp. Singapore, it can be a very good option. Plus (I don't know if you care) since you finish in one year, it's muuuuuch cheaper (oh yeah, and the dollar going up won't hurt none either)...
