Hi,

I have completed B.E. Computer Science in 2009 and then went on to MBA Finance in India and graduated in 2012. I worked as a Financial Analyst in India at a US based manufacturing company for 21 months.

I am currently preparing for GMAT and plan to take it up in July 2015. I am looking forward to working in US and am hoping to apply to MS in MIS courses. I am still confused if my profile fits the course. I welcome any feedback regarding the same.

Regards,
Mystery

Hey Mystery
Well, what are your goals? Why do you want to do an MIS? Why not an MF? In fact, why study altogether if you already have an MBA? Maybe what you need is a second (US) MBA to reach your goals?

Anyhow, if you can elaborate a bit more about your goals and targets, I can better advise you,
Best,
JF

Hi JF,

Thanks for the reply. My goal is to work in US. I am primarily interested in MIS since it will be a good way to merge educational qualifications (Engineering in CS and MBA in Finance). Also, I am interested in working as a Business Analyst. I looked at options for MF, but they would just reiterate concepts that I learned during my MBA. Thus, I ruled out MF. Do you think another US MBA would add value to my profile? I graduated in 2012 and worked for 21 months as a Financial Analyst. Since May 2014, I have not been working due to personal reasons. I have taken a year's break and am interested in getting back to work. I need to study further since I would not get a work visa in US without studying. Please let me know if you need any other information.

Regards,
Mystery

Hey there,
Well rather than focusing on qualifications, I'd suggest focusing on the degree that will get you the JOB you want. MIS can be a great option. A second MBA can also be an option. MIS is obviously better if you want to focus in on tech, and an MBA for leadership/business/consulting. It's all up to you.

Do be aware though that the fact that you have not worked since 2014 May, will make things tougher, which may ultimately mean that you should moderate your school selection a bit.

Best,
Jon
