Hi mbaMission,
Can anyone please evaluate my profile? I will try to be short and to the point. My goal is a full-time MBA programme.
Apologies in advance if some things might seem as excessive bragging. I am tying to be as honest as possible for my own good/benefit in this evaluation.
GMAT: 710 Q48/V39
GPA: 4.0
Age: 27 at marticulation
School: Oxford Brookes University, UK
Degree: BA (Hons) Finance and Accounting, First Class
Heritage: Eastern European/White Caucasian
Work experience (reverse chronology):
- Chevron/BP/Exxon: 4 years at matriculation (assuming that I will still be in this company at that point). Currently 4th position so far as a financial analyst, averaging 1 rotation per year. Doing treasury management at the moment. Management plans to rotate me into my 5th position in January 2016 as a financial reporting team lead. (Can I leverage this expected move somehow?)
- PwC/KPMG/Deloitte/E&Y: 1 year internship in Audit
- General remarks: very high achiever/high flyer: consistently ranked at the high end of the top quartile (demonstrated through having had 4 rotations in 4 years... typically it takes 1.5-2 years to get rotated once in my industry), very high job exposure and position visibility (interaction with executives/VPs, presentations, KPI results etc.), superior presentation/communication skills (consistently elected to hold presentations/discussions for out of town executives when they visit our office).
Extracurricular activities:
- Co-manager of an amateur football team: planning, strategy/tactics, sponsorship/finances, training sessions etc. Have been an active member/player for three years, was recently promoted to co-manager.
- Campus ambassador/recruiter. Contributing to planning campus presence/strategy, holding preliminary screening sessions on campus with further notes/recommendations to HR.
- Music composer and occasional performer in local gigs (guitar). Playing in the company's event band (company-hosted corporate events: Christmas, Easter, management visits, milestones etc.)
Target schools (Western Europe only):
- London Business School
- SDA Bocconi
- IE Business School
- INSEAD
- Cambridge: Judge
- Oxford: Said

It sounds like you have the basis of a strong profile, in terms of recognition at work, and interesting involvements outside of work, plus solid GMAT and academics. Some of the overall decision may come down to a) your ability to indicate your leadership potential and experiences, b) your ability to clearly articulate why you need the MBA and why each school is right for you, c) your ability to 'stand out' and show what YOU bring to the class that no one else will. Most of those will come through in your essays and interviews. But things are looking good, now it's time to focus on the essays, since that is where you can have the most impact at present.
