Why MBA now:-
I feel data would have a huge impact on the way Finance works in the next few years. Banking industry would change in the way it works. I feel a lot of opportunities would come up in this particular segment. I wish to switch my carrier path by making a move into Finance + Data Analytics roles. Reason for and MBA and MS data Analytics : MBA provides more opportunity to network and offers wider array of opportunities than MS.

700 Q51 V31.

Thanks a ton,
SAM.

Dear Sam,
Great to hear from you!

So I am missing one key element of your profile here - your school and GPA, but I will proceed without for the moment.

So you have good stuff in your profile - good work experience, leadership, even international leadership, and the CFA. And I think with this you can get into an excellent MBA program, but not Top 10. Not as an Indian candidate with a GMAT less than 740. (And Im also assuming you didn't graduate from an IIT). The competition is just too stiff. At Top 10 schools you will be up against IIT grades with 8.5 GPA a 770 on their GMAT, and a bulge bracket bank on their resume. So my main suggestion is for you to readjust your school list in the 10-30 ranking.

I know this is not necessarily good news for you, but if you adjust your school list now, you will be able to work to getting into an excellent Top 30 school.

A GMAT retake is also technically an option, but at 30 years old, I don't know if you want to take the risk. However, for a consideration of the options, read this:

Thanks for your reply. You gave a very realistic picture of my profile.

I have decided to give a shot at GMAT in 3-4 weeks. My verbal score in the real test was worst ever. With an improved strategy I can push my verbal score to V36+. I'm not from an IIT, but from a top 25 institute in India called DA-IICT. But, my GPA is 2.52 on unique 4 point scale ( only four grades A B C D 4 3 2 1 points respectively). But, doesn't CFA compensate for not so good acads? Is it valued by top B-Schools? I know it is a bit overrated degree, but still hopeful that it counts.

Well getting a higher GMAT will help for sure. With your GPA its probably actually the single best thing you can do to counterbalance it. So good luck on that!

CFA doesnt compensate for anything, although if you have three levels, and its useful in your target job it definitely helps (by making you more employable) but as it's not a stat that they repost (like GPA or GMAT) they care about it less.

Best,
JF
