Hi,
Thanks for your post, and candor!
As you self-assessed, yes your chances at schools such as MIT, Yale, Booth will be extremely slim at the present time, if you meant you were considering applying now (?). Their average incoming student has about 5 years of full-time work experience upon entering. I'd suggest at least having 2 good solid years of quality experience before applying, such that you'd at least have 3 years upon entry, ideally. The schools value work experience for many reasons, including 1) to ensure that every classmate has a wide variety of experiences to contribute to the class, especially in discussions, case studies & group projects, and 2) to ensure applicants have a good feel for their longer-term or overall career plans, which arguably can be difficult to do with just 1 year experience.
I do think schools will appreciate many facets of your profile, including your international experience, graduating 1st in your class, and extracurricular activities including the group you founded.
In terms of test scores, it could be higher but sometimes the average GRE scores at well known schools is not quite as competitive as a GMAT would be; check out some listed scores here:
https://poetsandquants.com/2016/05/09/av ... schools/3/So you can re-visit the test score q and consider whether you feel you could perform even better with a re-take but the immediate issue I'd say would be the work experience. Think about it, consider what your longer term career plan IS and then work backwards in terms of what will help you get there, which may likely include a bit more experience now before the MBA.
Keep in touch and good luck!
