Hello and thank you for reviewing my profile. I graduate with a BS in Accounting this June and plan on matriculating in 2019 or 2020 to an MBA program. Wanted to make sure I'm on the right track.
Background: White American male. 26 years old.
Work experience: Started and ran an online retail business for four years while attending college. 40+ hours a week. Roughly $120k in annual revenues and 99.9% positive feedback from customers.
This summer I'll be an audit intern at my state auditor's office.
This fall I plan on becoming a staff accountant at a real estate organization or bank. Will do that for 2-3 years and hopefully get a promotion in that period before applying.
Extra curriculars: Play trivia with a team once a week. We are one of best teams in a league of ~100.
Will find volunteer work after graduation. I find the VITA program, which performs tax returns for low income individuals, appealing.
Education: Public university not well known outside of state.
GPA: 3.65 (Junior & senior years)
2.4 (Freshman & sophomore. Explained below)
GMAT: 730 (47Q, 44V, IR6) Taken this year because I planned on starting a master's in accounting this fall, but with this score I can do more.
Goal of MBA: Consulting or a role involving real estate - such as development/project management or finance.
Target schools: Pretty open at this point to top 30 programs in the west, northeast, or upper midwest - Wharton, Johnson, Booth, Kellogg, Ross, Yale, Tuck, Stern, Foster, Anderson, Marshall, Mendoza, etc
Scholarship would be nice since I won't have much money saved before attending.
***Extenuating circumstances: Had several significant deaths in the family while I was attending community college. Lots of withdrawals and repeated courses. Delayed my graduation by a few years. Eventually finished my associates degree and transferred to a 4-year where I kicked butt and will graduate with at least a 3.65 while working.
Thanks again for your valuable input!

Hey dude,
Good to hear from you.
So first of all, without knowing what job you will have and what you will do, it's very hard to say how you might perform, and what schools will be good for you.
What I CAN say though is that when seeking a job, you want to find something:
- which will give you leadership opportunities
- at an employer that sends people to top MBAs
- Where you can advance and lay down the basis for your MBA.
If you graduate with a 3.65, you have little to worry about in terms of grades, although you can also tell the schools your story.
About your business you are running - more important than making money is what you are doing with it - are you leading others, are you running marketing campaigns, are you getting financing. Think in terms of "skills" rather than "money made".
finally I should say that the potential weaknesses in your profile are:
- a non top school
- a lack of volunteer work (work on it, yo!)
- a potentially "standard" seeming job
These are only potential weaknesses, and all of them (well, except the first) are things you can work on influencing, which is why I write this.
Best,
Jon
