Hi Jon,
Thanks for your reply.
Work - I was previously working in Zomato, one of the world's largest food and restaurant discovery platform present in 23 countries across the world. I started as part of the account management team helping restaurants to get discovered and market themselves better on zomato which has an average 1.3 million unique visitors visiting the website and app everyday. Because of my ability to grasp quickly, I was promoted to the position of Sales & Marketing Manager where I was leading a team of 2, working on accounts such as Fuddruckers, ChicKing etc. One of the value additions to my job was the suggestion and help in implementing the CRM across the Dubai office which comprised of over 150 employees.
Last year in March, I changed my job to my current one in an advertising company called Prism Advertising, where I started off as a Client Servicing Executive (due to modest knowledge about the field of advertising), and within a year I've been promoted as an Account Manager where I devise marketing strategies and help my accounts with their advertising, some of my accounts include multinational companies such as Philips, GlaxoSmithKline, Abbott Nutrition etc. I have, until date, helped make business of half a million dirhams for my company.
One of my key achievements at my current company would be the initiative I had taken to revamp our company website from scratch, including design concept (I had my design team doing the layout) and the content, which is now in the final stages of implementation.
Volunteer & Community work - I've been very active in college as part of the Social & Environment group and have been a key member of the team organising blood donation camps, clean up drives etc.
I was also part of the girls' volleyball and football teams in college taking part in inter-university competitions.
My story - I had joined engineering but I soon realised it was not really my passion. While taking management based electives in college, I found my love for Marketing. I decided to pursue marketing straight from college and that's how I started off in Zomato and grew on to learn more about the marketing and advertising world from my current job.
To enhance my understanding, I have also done onlinne diploma courses in Digital Marketing and Social Media Marketing.
Short term goal - To learn about research-driven and data analytics marketing and work in the marketing department of a multinational
Long term goal - Perhaps open my own marketing research company when I become an industry veteran.
I can get good recommendations from my current boss, the Associate Director (Prism Advertising) and my ex line-manager (Zomato) and from my Marketing faculty at my Engineering college.
I hope this helps give you a better insight. I would love to hear your thoughts on my profile and which colleges I should apply for 2018 intake.
Hey there!
Great to hear back from you!
NOW I get on with your profile evaluation. Let's start by having a look at your strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths:
- GMAT! (yay)
- Female candidate
- Marketing
Weaknesses:
- Non IIT school
- So-so GPA
- Lack of leadership
- Indian candidate (because of the size and competitiveness of pool)
Neutral
- Job experience is moderate
- Volunteer work is average
Overall, I would say that this would put your target school list for American MBA programs somewhere in the 10-25 range. This is the range where your profile would be competitive. Anything about (Approximately) would be a stretch. And anything below, a "Safe school". And a good strategy would be made up of 3-4 competitive schools, 1-2 safe schools, 1-2 stretch schools (at least). I do, for example, think you should apply to Kellogg since you have the marketing match, even if it may be a bit tough.
I hope this helps you get kicked off!
