currently working as Senior Engineer in a research center of a top Indian automobile company(2 yrs)
worked as a course reviewer for NPTEL during my masters as a freelancer(2017-2019)
Self-employment like teaching for 3 yrs while preparing for UPSC exam. (2014-2017)

Gold in District-level Judo championship in 2009, Participated at state level judo championship
Green Belt(6th-Kup) in Hapkido(Martial art) (2017-2019).
Actively involved in the training of White belt Hapkido trainees.(2017-2019)

Questions
1. will my work ex gap of 3years after my graduation, while I was preparing for UPSC(engineering services examination-written cleared) reduce my chances at Top 20 US colleges? will this count as work ex?
2. Is there any chance of a scholarship for my profile in the top 20?
3. Please suggest colleges for Dream, Target, achievable.

Hi SKATIYAR2204 , Thank you for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. Starting with stats, your undergrad GPA is good, and a great GATE/ GRE score. You are clearly exhibiting your academic potential. And you have a patent filed this is absolutely amazing and will definitly give a significant boost to your application. On the work front, being a senior engineer, you can bring stories of leadership and impact. I would like to know more about your work experience, like the roles and responsibilities you have undertaken to guide you more. Your ECs are excellent. Your judo and hapkido experience will bring lots of intriguing stories to the table, as well as diversity to your apps. This would create an interesting conversation between you and adcoms. Answering your concerns: 1. will my work ex gap of 3years after my graduation, while I was preparing for UPSC(engineering services examination-written cleared) reduce my chances at Top 20 US colleges? will this count as work ex? It will not reduce your chances. You must explain the three-year gap in your profile so that adcoms are not confused about your candidacy. You can do so by describing what you did. You were studying for the UPSC test and also having teaching experience. So, I don't think this will cause any problems until and until you articulate it effectively. Do you have full-time teaching experience? 2. Is there any chance of a scholarship for my profile in the top 20? It depends on your profile. How impactful your profile is and how you present it to the adcoms. To provide a more accurate response, I would need additional information about your profile. So far, we have helped many applicants in securing scholarships to top business schools such as LBS (despite low GMAT). 3. Please suggest colleges for Dream, Target, achievable Insead, LBS in Europe can be a good choice. They are obviously at the top in Europe for consulting and have a very extensive network for IB. They can be pegged as your dream-target schools. HEC, NYU can be in the target category. Rotman, IESE can be pegged in the achievable category. The list I have suggested keeping in mind that you have no country preference. However, the list of schools needs to be improvised after you are ready with your 'Branding for MBA' - Branding is how you portray your profile to business schools.  Department- Gasoline Engine Calibration 
 Project- G20-Gasoline Engine, XUV500 
• Measurement and Data development at R&D Testbed 
• Engine testing at manufacturing plant
 • Vehicle Testing at the vehicle assembly plant 
• OBD analysis 
• Support to other departments regarding calibration activities

Special contribution 
• High Altitude Testing at temperature (-15C) Pressure(520hpa) in Ladakh (Cold Start/Stop, ENSL, Cold Drive away, WOT..etc) 
• Vehicle Validation and calibration data development at Manali

Department- Powertrain Integration System
• Gasoline & Diesel intake and exhaust CAD Design analysis
•Gasoline & Diesel intake and exhaust 1-D simulation using GT-Suite
•Supplier Design review for Gasoline TCMPFI, TGDI & Diesel Engine
•Vehicle level testing for intake & exhaust system

Being part of the research team I have to support all engine and vehicle manufacturing plants of the company for my project regarding technical and quality issues. during High altitude testing, I lead a team of 3 technicians and 10 professional drivers for data collection and vehicle testing. during office job I have to guide diploma level people for various activity although those workers do not report directly to me.

During 2014-17 I do not have full-time teaching work-ex, although because of my NIT background it was paying very high.
As of now, I am targeting only US-based school

SKATIYAR2204 , Amazing! Keeping all of this in mind, I recommend that you include extremely strong leadership and impact elements in your profile (even beyond work). You've demonstrated traits of leadership and initiative. Furthermore, the fact that you have worked in various departments indicates that you are well-versed in technology. If you need more direction/guidance over any aspect of your application and have any specific concerns, you can ask us on the forum Ask MBA & Beyond . Regarding your work experience, as you were working (maybe part-time or something) and preparing for exams, you can justify gaps in your profile to the adcoms. Your academics are great, and you have achievements as well. If you are able to create a good narrative and present well to the adcoms, you had a shot at US schools.
