Hi! Need profile evaluation for MIM

1) Basic demographic info: 23, Indian, female

2) Educational Background: Materials engineer from Tier I college, 8.61 CGPA, 760 GMAT, with 1 paper published

3) Work experience: Working at my family business which is a IT consulting firm for 12 months first as a intern and then junior consultant (we believe in learning your way up the cycle). Also working at my own start up which provides cyber security solutions to organizations: started out with 3 people now we are 10, projected revenue increase is 35% this year with 2 major projects.

4) Extracurriculars:
1. College club president in UG. Managed 100+ volunteers, and did 3 events
2. Outreach coordinator for a ngo working to promote STEM in young girls. Done 5 events this year with 70+ young girls and 3 corporate sponsors
3. Human Resource City Team Lead for another NGO. Leading team of 160 volunteers and managing city events for mobilization

5) Short/Long term goals: Want to try supply chain management or luxury management after MIM preferably in France/Italy

6) Schools: Shortlisted schools are HEC, ESSEC, ESCP and Bocconi

Can you let me know? I know this is a forum for MBA but wanted to ask

Hi pia1318

Your profile is good. I am an INSEAD alumna and have served tenure as an admissions interviewer for INSEAD. Feel free to connect should you want advice regarding planning your applications.

Your academic arc is very solid and the 760 on GMAT further stresses your academic orientation.

You have solid points to talk about on the professional front. So, make sure you represent this well in your essays. It is also important that you describe your motivations for accepting a variety of career opportunities and demonstrate your growth mindset in terms of the position you aspire to after the MIM.

Your 2 stints should focus on A) demonstrating the scale (think growth rate) of your business and the impact, B) having a solid plan for the future, whether in a job or in your own business and how the particular school would help you build the network and your brand. As a new generation in the family business, you can also showcase your ideas by citing your fresh and unconventional approach to business (as opposed to the traditional approaches currently followed) as your motivation for pursuing the MIM.

Your ECs are diverse as well.

Overall I can suggest some things to keep in mind while preparing for the MIM/Masters applications

Your profile is impressive specifically your academics. However, if you are looking for a career in the luxury supply chain, you ideally should establish some prior motivation toward this domain. An internship or personal experience with this can help you stand out from the crowd as it helps you reflect on real-world applications you have experienced and how that may have fueled your interest in exploring the area further.

Academic focus: Your GMAT is solid. Highlight any other academic accolades, scholarships, or recognitions you have received.

Proof of enthusiasm and motivation: Provide context regarding your passion for business/ luxury supply chain/ sustainable supply chains, starting from an early stage, and supplement your interest with examples of relevant courses, internships, or projects you have undertaken.

Understanding, experience, and appreciation of the subject through real-life applications and projects: Utilize insights from your internships, jobs, or other related projects. Discuss specific projects that have been pivotal in motivating you to further explore the subject.

Super curricular activities: Share details about supplementary books, articles, research papers, or newspapers you have read. Highlight any relevant podcasts you listen to and explain how these activities support and complement your interest in the subject.

I strongly advise you to cover these points thoroughly in your essays, SOPs or interviews.

Additionally, having a variety of extracurricular activities and language skills is advantageous. Discuss how these experiences and skills can contribute to your future as a business leader.

Here are a few other points to keep in mind:

1.Demonstrate originality and a thoughtful approach in your application.
2.Show active engagement with the target school and potential recruiters to learn about the post-MIM prospects, showcasing your conscientiousness. My applicants who recently successfully converted their offers had actively reached out to professors and engaged in discussions to gain meaningful insights about the program and courses. Demonstrating enthusiasm to truly understand the academic environment at schools can greatly contribute to your success.

Best wishes

Aanchal Sahni (INSEAD alum, ex admissions interviewer)

Thanks a lot sir..
What I am worried about is that I was working at an MNC before this and had to leave due to some personal reasons. Stayed there for only 3 months.. will that be an issue?

That's a very specific question. Probably would need a little more context to give you a better answer

Hi!
So for context
1. Joined an MNC straight after graduation- it was a campus placement. MNC works in many countries in subsea oil and gas business. Was told I would be in engineering consulting but was actually put into documents review. Then due to some personal issues at home (my grandfather is sick), I had to move back home within 2 months of joining. I left on good terms with employer

2. then I joined our family business as an intern and moved up the ladder as detailed previously

My question is: will this be a questionable decision to ADCOM? Will it affect my chances going forward? As our family business is in the sector where I want to continue, would that be a more helpful answer to this question?
