Hi henrykang , I hope you are doing well.

Starting with a 2.2 GPA, it is notably low, which could be a major concern for highly competitive programs. However, given the health challenges during college, it would be crucial to address this in the application in a proper way. Explaining how the challenges impacted academic performance, while highlighting the recovery and subsequent academic achievements, will offer context and help mitigate this weakness. Completing a First Class Degree in Business Law and Taxation and IIM Bangalore certificate courses shows strong academic rigor, particularly in business law and finance, areas of interest for the applicant's post-MBA goals. These qualifications demonstrate capability and resilience in overcoming early setbacks. This is a great experience, particularly the exposure to legal and compliance affairs for major firms, which is valuable for an MBA applicant targeting consulting or corporate strategy. The 2.5 years of experience at a Big 4 firm adds significant weight to the profile. Exposure to American companies and international banks provides strong global business insight, which is attractive to top MBA programs. Publishing four articles in prestigious journals demonstrates intellectual rigor, while the foreign policy and international relations YouTube channel shows initiative and leadership. These experiences can enhance your personal brand, particularly if the content is well-regarded or widely followed. The focus on corporate strategy or consulting post-MBA is well-aligned with your experience in corporate law and finance. Your diverse background, including legal expertise and strategic insights, will offer a unique perspective in these fields. With your GMAT score, you should aim for a score of 700+, which would help offset the GPA concerns. Preparing effectively, perhaps with targeted courses or tutoring, could significantly improve the application.

Overall, what's going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story to stand out from other applicants in the pool.

If you’d like, we are happy to discuss more about your leadership skills, impact created, challenges faced, awards and achievements and extracurriculars in depth to assess your chances to top B-schools and strengthen your application with impactful stories.
