Hello and thanks for your post.
The application process is truly holistic, and committees will look at your stats (GPA and GMAT), work experience, and extracurriculars.
In terms of your stats, while your GPA of 8.9 is strong, you will need to increase your GMAT if you would like to have a significantly better chance at admission for schools in the top 40 or so. For example, a GMAT Focus score of 625 is roughly equivalent to the GMAT Classic score of 680, and that is closer to the average of many US schools you may wish to target. If you haven’t already, I suggest taking it up to 3-4 times. You have nothing to lose since schools will only look at your highest score. You may still want to illustrate to the schools that you have the academic ability to succeed in the classroom. You could showcase your quant ability in your resume, your recommenders could do the same in their recommendations, or you could even take a supplemental course such as stats or calculus, or HBS CORe. Of course, your stats alone will not get you admitted; your work experience and extracurriculars are also crucial. In general, creating stand out applications is necessary to differentiate yourself among other applicants and show why you are a fit for the school and would add value to the classroom and community.
Good luck!
