Hello, and thank you in advance for your feedback. I'm looking to get into a top tier MBA program that has specialties in entrepreneurship. I'm also considering a dual/joint degree in Engineering with a focus on aerospace engineering, or to simply take classes in those fields, although this is not a main requirement. My top choices for schools are Stanford, MIT, Michigan, UT Austin, and Berkeley. My profile is as follow:
3.5 years of work experience.
- 1 yr of Finance in Trading
- 2.5 of sales and sales manager at a top solar company. Top 10% in sales consistently, large improvements on KPIs as a manger. Promoted twice in my time here.
Also had about 6 months in between the jobs where I pursued a personally venture in eSports. It was not successful, but I gained important knowledge and, realistically, wisdom. Not sure if this hurts or helps.
3.65 GPA with Honors at The University of Arizona in Finance and Entrepreneurship (from the McGuire Center)
740 GMAT Q50/V41
8 IR
Naturalized US Citizen, originally born in China
No recent volunteer experience, aside from some time at the local food bank
Also passed the Level 1 CFA prior to leaving the industry, not sure if that's relevant
Goals for getting into an MBA program: Learn how to effectively start and lead a team in a developing industry, preferably as a start-up. One of the main reasons for my current employment is to gain the basic skills (sales, management) in order to develop them into superior skills through an MBA program.
Please let me know where I can focus on to increase my chances as much as possible, as I'm afraid to come across as generic.

Well first, your academic credentials are excellent. Your GPA / GMAT stats are excellent. The CFA helps a little too. I don't see any improvements needed from an academic standpoint.
You said yourself that you don't have much recent volunteer experience. Are there other activities / hobbies you pursue outside of work? Often times these can serve as differentiators, if schools can see you're a well-rounded person who is passionate & driven. So that seems like a potential area to improve, though not much time to add new things if you are applying this season.
I think the biggest area for you to think about is your career "story" (i.e., what has driven your career decisions in the past and where do you see yourself going post-MBA). The fact that you pursued something entrepreneurial is totally fine and could actually be quite interesting to write about the decision to pursue it and what you learned from it. But I'm having trouble connecting the interest in aerospace engineering to your past experience and entrepreneurial goals -- could be there and just needs to be fleshed out further. Also think about how you can explain the past moves you've made since your jobs have been in two different functions in two different industries.
If you can do that, and tell a logical and compelling story about why you need an MBA I think you're in good shape.

Hi Kate,
Thanks for the response. The reason for the interest in aerospace is that I'd really like to work in the astronautical industry in the future. Definitely more in a business role, but even that may require technical knowledge from what I have seen in terms of job requirements. I've even attended space-related conferences on my own free time, so maybe I can use that as a hobby or interest that you describe?
