I have already sent to a few deferred MBA programs (graduating in 2020), but not Wharton. I am debating whether to send it , as I am not sure if my profile is worthwhile for *Wharton*.
Let me know your thoughts, and if profile is worthwhile, which points I need to focus more on for Wharton!
(kindly be specific to my request - Wharton and deferred MBA)

Background: India, Female, 22
Undergrad Information: top-10 private college in India. B.Tech, Computer science 2020. 9.14/10
GRE: 329 V162 Q167
Work experience: 0 ; hence applying to deferred
Experience:
- 2 Research internships at good research institutes in India
- Currently interning at ZS associates - decision analytics (full time role before plan to start MBA)
- basically interested in AI/ML - applied to healthcare and other domains
- RA in college labs
- few publications and conferences though I know thats not imp for business schools :(
Leadership:
- Women in Machine Learning and Data Science - organizer/lead of city chapter: 320+ members community
- Founded a mentorship initiative in college- teach juniors and guide re career paths : impacted 50 members in 1st 6 mos
Community:
- Volunteered for UN with a Nigerian foundation on mental health/NCD risk factors (Remote)
- currently working with a team to help students laid off due to COVID get internships
Post MBA goals:
- short term: Go into healthcare startups focusing on AI to operationalize healthcare delivery, building on college healthcare projects and ZS experience.
- long term: Launch own venture on healthcare

Hi, and thanks for writing! Though in general deferred programs (including Wharton) are both very competitive and somewhat unpredictable in terms of which candidates get admitted, I think that with your strong academics, extracurricular leadership, and solid internships (including at ZS, which is internationally known) it makes sense for you to apply to Wharton. Wharton is very strong in healthcare, so it's also a great match for your goals.

With the deferred programs, one thing to note is that there's nothing to lose by applying - even if it doesn't work out this time, it will not penalize your regular application in a few years (in fact, we've seen that some admits to top bschools were once deferred candidates years prior). So I'd say go ahead and apply if you have the time to put together a solid application. Best of luck!
