Hello,
I would highly appreciate if I could get your insight with regards to the fit of my profile for schools such Insead, LBS, Oxford, HEC Paris, Cornell (1-yr) and Emory (1-yr). My profile is as follows:
Citizenship: Canadian
Undergrad: Chemical Engineering - University of Toronto (CGPA: 2.7; 3rd & 4th year GPA:3.2)
Masters (Fully Funded research MASc. by the canadian oil sands institute)): Chemical Engineering - University of Toronto - CGPA - 3.2
GMAT: 700 (Quant:49, Verbal:37, IR:6, did not receive AWA score yet but I am confident it will be at least a 4)
Post Masters
Work Experience:
2017 to present - 2.5 years as a process engineer (operations) in a global chemical company with various production facilities in Europe, US, Canada and India; Currently, managing 24 unionized employees and 4 non-unionized employees in the operations team (at the facility in the outskirts of Toronto). Also, I have had the opportunity to travel and work with the operations team at one of the US plants to identify systems they have in place for process safety that could be beneficial for the Canadian plant, and worked closely with the Belgian operations team to employ their equipment energy isolation standards to the Canadian facility. I was also picked to attend the 2019 North American leadership training program offered by the company in the US.
2015 - 2017 - 2 years as a chemical engineer (operations) in a Canadian chemical manufacturing firm (production facility in Toronto) providing chemical formulations for industrial, commercial and residential odor control. I had 5 direct reports (non-unionized) at the facility. Also, had the opportunity to work with the sales and marketing teams based in the US and China to provide them with any technical details regarding the products as needed.
Additional work experience:
2010-2011 Worked at the Research & Development facility of Syncrude Canada (Oil & Gas) in the province of Alberta as a chemical engineer (Intern) for 12 months (after my 3rd year of chemical engineering). As a part of the bitumen production team I worked on a research project trying to optimize oil extraction using alternative solvents (at low solvent to bitumen ratios) to Naphtha, the solvent commonly used in industry. The main goal of the project was to minimize the environmental impact from the oil sands bitumen extraction and treatment stage.
Post MBA goals: To work in management consulting preferably on projects in the manufacturing sector. The reason I want to get into consulting so that I can accelerate my understanding of the various operational challenges that could hinder the productivity and profitability of a company. In my current job and the job I had prior to this, I have been able to gain an understanding of the challenges that two different chemical manufacturing operations can face. However, the challenges aren't always the same and gaining experience from a variety of projects would help me develop insights that I can't develop by staying at one firm for several years. However, I would also like to clarify that my end goal is to transition into a corporate role and use the insights I gain from my time as a consultant to add significant value to the company's operational strategies.
Extra-curriculars:
- Played for the Canadian Under-19 cricket team in the Under-19 cricket world cup qualifiers in 2007
- Played for the Ontario Under-19 cricket team in the Under-19 Canada Cup in 2007
- Involved in fundraising activites for Born to live, a non-profit organization providing basic needs for impoverished children 2016-present
- Guiding new engineers in Ontario with the Engineering license applications, and career development as a member of the PEO (Professional Engineers
Ontario) Licensure/mentorship program 2017-present
Schools that I am considering: Insead, LBS, Oxford, Emory (1-yr), Cornell (1-yr), Ivey, and HEC Paris.
Would my profile be a good fit for the schools mentioned above? Also, will these schools help me achieve my post-mba goals or should I also consider some other schools?
Thank you,
Kushal
