Age: 26
Education:
UG: BSc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration from Institute of Hotel Management, Pusa, Delhi (considered the best college for HM in India) - 64% marks - 2008
PG: 2 year full time Post Graduate Program in International Business from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University (the no. 1 college for Commerce education in India) - 68% marks - 2012
Work Experience:
1) Assistant Supervisor (Catering) - Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, Delhi - 8 months (2008 - 2009)
2) Research Analyst - Egon Zehnder Information & Research Services Private Limited, Delhi - 11 months and counting (2012 - present)
Extracurricular: Nil
GMAT: Planning to take in March 2014.
Target Schools: Top 10-15 B-Schools in USA.
Targeted Post MBA Specialization: Consulting and Finance

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your profile information. If I understand correctly, you would be applying fall 2014? To start an MBA fall 2015? In that case, good for you for doing some early research and planning; you have sufficient time to truly improve your profile and application.
At present based on the info you provided it would be difficult to gain acceptance at a top 10 US program. Reasons for this include less work experience than the average candidate and no extracurriculars or involvement, plus the GMAT score is a big open question.
To have a little more perspective on what tier of schools you may want to apply to, I suggest you take at least a practice GMAT exam soon to know where you are at, and what improvement may be necessary. Or go ahead and prepare for and take the actual exam (an option since scores are valid for 5 years). Most applicants spend 2-3 months part-time preparing for the GMAT; can vary based on your starting point and how much prep you need to get to where you want.
You will also want to focus on identifying what your specific short and long term career goals are and be able to explain why the MBA is needed for those goals. And another step you can focus on in the coming year is researching the various US programs to come up with a short list of the schools you feel are right for you, as each school wants to know why their program is the best match for you.

Dear Jen,
I really appreciate your help here. I understand that at present I do not have the best of profiles to gain acceptance into a top notch MBA program in the US. Hence, I have decided to wait for a couple of years and build myself a solid profile. Only then will I appear for the GMAT. Thank you once again.
