Hi @Samcha, you have an interesting background that will stand out among other candidates from India. Working in a product mgmt role in pharma could absolutely help you if that is related to post MBA goal. Education: MBBS (medicine): 58% |MD (clinical pharmacology): 71 %, university topper
Work ex: Medical advisor (Medico marketing) in a pharma company: two and half years| recently awarded for exemplary contribution in H1. Might get a chance to move to product management role but not sure if that will give me an edge for MBA admission / post MBA placement or not.
Extra-curricular: None| 8 publications of original research work (not sure if that qualifies as Extra-curricular as it was part of work / post-graduation curriculum)
When you say "none"-- think more about what you may have done as part of medical training-- did you show leadership somewhere? You may not have had time to do extra extra-curriculars- but you may have something in your background that fitsPost MBA goals: Healthcare consulting OR strategy related role in big pharmas
Planning to take GMAT in May for 2019 intake
Which are the colleges should I target (1 year MBA) if my score is around 700?
700 GMAT will not get you too far-- and for 1 yr MBA check to make sure you have the background for it-- you will for most in Europe but not necessarily for all in US- for example for Kellogg 1 yr you need undergrad business coursework. What’s the scope in Ivy League colleges in US if score is around 700?
Again- 700 is a crowded space-- try for 720+ which with extra study you may hit-- if you got through med school you should be able to do this with enough time and prep. I would look at schools that have great healthcare programs-- and those will be in heathcare hubs-- like Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Raleigh -Durham area of NC-- there are a wide range of schools covered-- from HBS, to Sloan, to Kellogg, Booth, Wharton, Fuqua, UNC Kenan-Flagler. Fuqua has a health sector management program that offers great training for healthcare careers post MBA. Your background will be appealing to pharma so the trick is to get you into the MBA program! Since you don't have that background a consulting team could help you focus on your best shots and also help you emphasize the parts of your background that will most appeal to adcom. We have former adcom at Stratus and counselors with ties to all these scholls I mention.
