Indian, Male, 29

Education: MBBS (medicine): 58% |MD (clinical pharmacology): 71 %, university topper

Work ex: Medical advisor (Medico marketing) in a pharma company: two and half years| recently awarded for exemplary contribution in H1. Might get a chance to move to product management role or if I continue in the same role I ll be given a team of 4-5 people. But not sure which one of these will give me an edge for MBA admission / post MBA placement

Extra-curricular: None| 8 publications of original research work (not sure if that qualifies as Extra-curricular as it was part of work / post-graduation curriculum)
Post MBA goals: Healthcare consulting OR strategy related role in big pharmas
Planning to take GMAT in May for 2019 intake

Questions:
Current role with team handling experience or product management?
Which are the colleges should I target (1 year MBA) if my score is around 700?
What’s the scope in Ivy League colleges in US ( 1 yr / 2 yr) if score is around 700?

Hi Samcha!
Thanks for posting. Your medical background should be attractive to b-schools -- not the most common plus academically rigorous. Your experience in a pharma company sounds valuable too. As for which job, I don't think you can go wrong with either one since they both sound like advancements and opportunities to challenge yourself. I would pick the one that's most related to your post-MBA goals.

Otherwise, I think your priorities are: 1) GMAT! Your GPAs seem low, though maybe that's more typical for your field; either way, a strong showing on the GMAT is important. 2) Boosting your extracurricular profile since publications don't really count for that. 3) School research. It's hard to advise on specific schools without knowing your full profile and GMAT score, and what your priorities are. But I will say that with a 700, a top school is going to be tough. I would focus primarily outside the top 15. Look for schools that have strong placements in healthcare. If you're focusing on the one year option, then Emory, USC, Notre Dame, Cornell have one year programs, as do many programs in Europe too.

Best of luck!
Kate
