Hi All,
I’ve got an interesting profile and wanted to get your thoughts on whether or not it’s plausible that I will get into any of the schools on my list.
Background
Bad Stuff - 2.7 undergrad GPA in liberal arts and 2.8 GPA in law school (I only got in because of a high LSAT).
I was 17 when I went to college and 20 when I went to law school. In all honesty, I just wasn’t mature enough to handle either one. I was 23 when I graduated law school and passed the NY bar on my first try. That’s not to say I’m a lazy brilliant person, but that I’m not as dumb as my GPAs suggest. I’m unsure how I’ll relay this over effectively, 10 years have passed since I graduated law school, lots has changed (see below).
Gmat - 690 (47Q, 38V)
Post school experience -
2 years as a project manager as a claims administration company
1.5 years as a contract attorney
2 Years at JPMorgan in Anti Money Laundering Compliance
5 years as a successful entrepreneur in Anti Money Laundering Consulting. Recently was informed that my company will be listed in Inc Magazines list of top 5000 fastest growing companies. I’ve done $20m in revenue in 3 years and hopefully $25-26m over 4 years. While that’s not all profit (that would be great!), the business is definitely profitable.
Extras - I’m a member of the board on the Asian Advisory Board of Nassau County and the father of 2 beautiful kids.
Will my GPAs be an anchor that I can’t get out of, or do I have enough years away from school, Gmat and good enough post grad experience for an admissions team to give me a shot?
I’m looking at mostly PT schools
1) NYU Saturday program or Tech MBA
2) Columbia EMBA
3) Booth - EMBA
4) Kellog - Weekend MBA
I’m open to other schools, but am primarily going to business school to grow my network and use the skills I’ll learn to work on another idea I have.
Thanks in advance.
