1) Basic demographic info: 29, Male, India

2) Educational Background: B.E (8.5/10 - India), M.S (Engineering - 3.7/4.0 - Top 20 School in US)

3) GRE: 339/340 (V: 170, Q: 169. Official ETS Conversion is to 800/800 on GMAT)

4) Work experience: Staff Software Engineer in San Francisco, CA. 5 promotions in 4.5 years.
Work in the Software R & D division of a leading technology company with a focus on Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity.

5) Extracurriculars: Involved with a non-profit working in the education sector for the last 4 years. Have a functionary role within the org.

6) Short/Long term goals: Strategy (maybe with a focus on Technology)

7) Schools: Wharton, MIT Sloan, Booth, Kellogg MMM, Columbia, Haas (EW-MBA)

8) Recommendations - 2 good recommendations from engineering managers (direct supervisors)

I currently have a well paying job where I am gaining good experience and I am wary of spending $130K on a Tier 2 MBA program.
At the same time, I understand that I come from an over-represented pool and do not have much to make my profile unique.
I am very interested in knowing whether there are any programs which will give higher weightage to my GRE/GMAT and Technology work experience (like the Kellogg MMM Program).
Greatly appreciate the support and guidance.

I currently have a well paying job where I am gaining good experience and I am wary of spending $130K on a Tier 2 MBA program.I'd say that you might want to think about schools where you could surely get a scholarship-
and if you want to go to a tech company- such as Amazon- well they are hiring from almost every business school of note of some kind- hiring 1,000 last year! So look at this article my colleague Harold wrote about how you might be surprised at where you can get a full ride- and again- if you are the "big cheese" at some school- there are always extras-

It sounds to me like you do have some real positives- the SF work experience, the near perfect score, strong promotion record... sometimes consultants- or some outside trusted observer can help you see these things more clearly- but I see lots to like in your profile. I am very interested in knowing whether there are any programs which will give higher weightage to my GRE/GMAT and Technology work experience (like the Kellogg MMM Program).I think the ones you mention are good stretches and worth applying to- I say stretch only because they are for all- but I think the MMM program at Kellogg would be great, and Wharton and Booth and Haas and CBS too- but also broaden to maybe Cornell, Tepper, and maybe even Foster. I also think you would present really well at Ross. It can be helpful to have both angles working at once-
apply to the stretch and then also apply to some of the safety and target schools so hopefully you have options- lots of them- and some with funding support! Good luck to you and reach out for the consult if you want to know more about how we can help!

GMAT: 710 ( 34v 50q) I am here to give you a good scope of the landscape- recognizing of course that there are always exceptions to the rule.... In general .... GMAT 710 + candidate from India x= (meaning not equal) to M7. Feeling somewhat limited by my keyboard options here- but I think it is good to know what you are up against. That being said, your odds improve by saying you are female, and also your work experience matters- A LOT. And I like the variety of work, the cross cultural experience,
the promotions, the start-up and the edutainment and tech experience. So there is a lot to like- but you have to hit a home run on your essays and your WHY this school and WHY MBA to overcome the stats in this case. I'd also look at some schools like Babson that are known for their entrepreneurship as they have a lot to offer in this area also. Best wishes!

Hi,

I'd like to bow down to your GMAT score. Its WooooW!
IN general you have very strong academics and the top -schools are going to appreciate that.

In terms of your profile, I like the fact that you have been promoted 5 times in 4.5 years. Considering this, I will assume that you have some great achievements lined up, that should be mined for their uniqueness.

Now the fact is that you do belong to an over represented pool. However, people from this pool get into the top business schools all the time. SO do apply to the colleges you have mentioned. At your level, I'd rather go for an immersive experience as compared to an evening MBA. Think of an MBA as two years invested in your all round development.

Hi Newbiestar,

The question that immediately pops up to my mind is that when you already taken significant steps towards your venture, why would you leave it at this stage of growth to go do an MBA?
More so, when your goal is to get back to entrepreneurship after MBA
