Hi Jon!

Thank you so much for your response and I'm happy to hear my school list could be appropriate.

As far as work experience, my position is essentially middle management at my firm. My job is to lead the project - everything from developing the project plan, guiding the due diligence, putting together the presentation and strategic recommendations, presenting to the client, communicating with the client throughout the project, and managing a team of analysts / senior analysts throughout. I'm currently leading an internal initiative to develop tools and resources for the firm to help with research and analytical thinking processes. My company is not well known by the public as it is a boutique, but we specialize in pharmaceutical and biotech consulting, advising our clients on market strategy in areas of payer messaging & contracting, pricing, distribution, patient & provider programs, & strategic stakeholder engagement / partnerships, among others. Our clients are all top 10 organizations in the field and fortune 500 companies who we work closely with across their portfolios. Many recommendations on the projects I led have been implemented by our clients. I was promoted twice (from analyst to senior analyst to consultant) and increased my salary by nearly 80% within two years. I expect to have very strong recommendations from the partners at my company who act as my direct supervisors.

As far as the professor who failed me offering to write me a recommendation... would it be meaningful to an admissions committee to have some like that attest to my performance in the classroom despite whatever issues and mistakes I may have made in my undergraduate career? I took a couple courses with him and he was my academic adviser, so he knows me better than most professors. I will still have professional recommendations so it would be supplemental.

Thanks!

Hey there,
I like your idea of this supplemental recommendation, and I think it's not a bad idea. Two tips here: 1. Have him keep it short (not more than one page) and 2. Make sure that the school is willing to accept such materials (some schools refuse to consider extra stuff).

Otherwise your work seems pretty good. Put some effort also in making your employer seem as impressive as possible, since your firm will likely not be known.

And that should get you started!

Best,

Hi Jon!

After 6-8 weeks of studying I just took the GMAT and scored a 750, with a 47Q, 47V breakdown.

I am happy with my overall score of course, but my quant was a little lower than expected as I had been consistently scoring 48/49 in practice. I did score a 8 in IR... will this at all offset my lower quant score in the eyes of the adcom?

Also, do you think an overall score of a 750 will help make my low GPA (3.0 from a top 10 US university) less of a problem for adcoms, assuming I explain and take responsibility for this in my essays?

Thanks again!

Best,

PinkChihuahua

Wahoo!
Go you, PinkChihuahua!
What a fantastic score!.
And although it doesn't efface a low GPA, you have just done the BEST thing possible to prove that you are one clever cookie!
Congrats!
