Good day all,
Hi EvilMunky, and thanks for your service to our country. Let me answer your questions below- and I will do so using my admissions background to give you some thoughts on how your profile will be viewed...First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this post. I'd really appreciate some candid feedback regarding my prospects of attending a top-10 full-time MBA program.
Age: 35
GMAT Score: 690 (V38 Q47) on my first attempt - Definitely retaking it
Not a bad score for someone taking the test well past college and exam days- but certainly if you think you can break the 700 barrier try again.Education: PhD in Biomedical Engineering
Here's where things get tricky- so you are dealing with age 35 and prior PhD and both of those take you out of the MBA FT mainstream. Not to say that you can't overcome this- but know that this is what I see as the big hurdles.US Citizen
About 4 years of work experience
The only 4 yrs of work is also on the light side for your age- which I assume is because of time for Ph.D. - if you did a post doc of some kind you can count that as work experienceCurrent occupation: Active Duty; biodetection/counter-terrorism/counter-wmd
Along with a colleague, I had started a biotech firm about three years ago, but it was not successful.
I see the top 10 MBA programs as a stretch with all of this- but I think there are some excellent programs where you may really get more out of it- for example Babson is known for some really innovative entrepreneurial resources, so is Olin (Wash U)- and I think both these programs could position you well for success so I don't see the top 10 as a necessity. If you want to increase odds for top 10 success you can likely by your age be considered for some evening/weekend MBA programs and all the top programs offer these- might look at Booth or Kellogg if considering Chicago or Wharton- which has a San Francisco option also. You will need to explain WHY MBA- and perhaps it is as simple as that I started my biotech firm and realized beyond subject matter expertise that I needed more business to succeed. I also would tell you to look at UNC Kenan-Flagler online as they have a strong military presence in their program for online. If you want to speak in depth, I recommend a consult with us and you can set this up at this link:
