Hey Experts,
Hi @mrunank, thanks for reaching out for advice. I will share my comments below in blue.I had applied to some top schools last year but it didn't turn out as expected. I plan to reapply this year with a changed list of schools (May have 1 or 2 same from last year). I needed some advice on my profile as well as the schools I should target. I plan to apply in Round 1 this year. Please find my details below. It would be great if you could help here.
Sorry to hear last year did not work out as you hoped-- but know that many people get into MBA programs as reapplicants-- and I suspect that your young age may have contributed... so you will be 1 yr older with more experience this year!GMAT score: 740
Bio: 24 years old, Indian male. Looking to join the Aug 2023 session of MBA (with ~4 years of work ex)
I have seen many with this profile be successfulEducation:
Undergraduate CGPA: 8.6/10
UG degree: B.E. (Hons.) in Manufacturing Engineering from BITS Pilani (a Tier 1 college in India)
Work Experience:
During UG:
- 2 months internship at Honda Motorcycles (one of the biggest 2-wheeler manufacturers in the country)
- 6 months internship at Swiggy (biggest quick commerce start-up in India) - received a PPO.
After UG: 3 years with Swiggy. Working as a manager in the Central discounting team; solving for growth in the food delivery business. Have been promoted once in March 2021, Looking at another promotion in Oct 2022.
Always good to see promotionsWhy MBA: Found myself lacking in some skills which I will be able to develop faster during the MBA. Networking with people in industries around the world will help expand my perspective.
Short Term Goal: Get into management consulting right after my MBA to gain experience in various industries.
Long Term Goal: Be in a leadership position (COO, Head of strategy, etc) in an ecommerce company/startup.
Schools applied to last year: Sloan, Booth, Kellogg, Stern, Ross, Darden, Fuqua.
If you want to have the best shot at Fuqua I suggest you apply ED in September. It helps to engage with students and club leaders so start doing that now. If you are not successful at Fuqua you can also consider Darden and apply non binding in the earliest round and you will have the option to interview without invitation. You can also do that for Fuqua. Your odds on Sloan, Booth, Kellogg, Stern and Ross won't be too different from R1 to R2 but still try to get it in R1 if you can. You might also look at Haas as they have a strong community of food entrepreneurs and you may find that interesting given your background. We at Stratus would also be glad to do a
free consult with you to hear more about your background.
Location preferences: UK and USA.
