I am a military veteran (Navy) interested in B-school and would appreciate a quick evaluation of my profile. I am targeting the NYU Stern Langone program.
1. Academics - Virginia Military Institute, BS Mechanical Engineering, GPA 3.88, Class Rank #10/284. Institute Honors graduate. Recently completed Harvard Extension School “Principles in Finance” course, grade: 4.0
2. Work Experience – Navy: 5.5 years in Navy as a nuclear engineer, program manager and ship driver. Led/managed 45+ direct reports and $550 million in mechanical equipment. Operations manager for various high-profile nuclear engineer evolutions (ie. reactor refueling).
Post Navy: 6-months as a Senior Consultant at Big 4 accounting firm, financial services division. My first project had me interacting with the C-suite at a bulge bracket bank.
3. GMAT - 620, IR: 7. I took the GMAT in haste after one of my deployments, therefore I believe, with some focused study, I can clear at least 650.
4. Short-term career goals: Bridge finance technical gaps so that I can move into a management position at my current financial services consulting firm.
Long-term career goals: Move into strategic financial services consulting, namely emerging markets or banking and capital markets.
