Hi Everyone,
I have 10+ years of work experience in IT Consulting, of which I spent my last 5 years in Presales & Business Development. I need suggestions from this forum on where I stand today and what sort of B-schools I can realistically aim for.
Qualification: Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from India (Ordinary univ. Not IIT/NIT scale) with 63% score. Don't know how to translate this into GPA. I know this is just an average score.
Work Experience:
1. 5 years in IT Development - Into Database Programming, Modelling
2. 5 years in Presales and Business Development (IT Consulting) - Based in Singapore and widely traveled. Traveled and worked in over 12 countries.
GMAT: Just started my preparation. Took GMAC Official Prep mock test in a very casual setting. Scored 620 (Q48 | V28). Was accurate in my responses, but timing was an issue. Left a 10% of questions unanswered.
Can spare 2 hours a day for GMAT preparation over the next 3 months.
Goal: Aiming for the top-15 B-schools.
Considering the above facts, please provide your suggestions.

Thanks for reaching out! Is a part-time program an option for you at all? Given what you've shared here top 15 full time programs will be very difficult to get into, even if you significantly improve your GMAT score. You are coming from the toughest demographic when it comes to b-school apps, and it's also one that tends to have high GMAT scores (typically 740+ for top 10-15 programs) in addition to the fact that many of those applicants do come from IITs & have strong GPAs. In your case the 10 years of experience is going to be a challenge as well. Most top US schools are looking for applicants with 3-5 years of experience and when you have more than that they start to worry that you no longer need the degree. That's why a part-time program could be such a good option for you. The average years of experience for a PT program is typically in the 10 year range, and they are also not as difficult to get into as their full-time counterparts. Ideally you'll still want to land at at least a 700 GMAT, but given your study schedule I think that's totally a realistic score for you. Columbia, Booth, Haas & Wharton all have part-time programs if there's any chance you can work in the US while attending school. If that's not an option for you and you do want to target full-time programs I'd aim for schools in the 25-40 range assuming a 700 GMAT. If you can score 740 I'd aim for schools in the 15-25 range. Another option would be to look at European schools, where your age will be less of a factor. Schools like Oxford would be a good fit if you can score in the 740 range. With a 700 you could target schools like IE, Warwick, and Rotterdam.
