Hi,
Please review my profile for admissions for the top 25 business schools in the US:
Background
Age: 28
Ethnicity: Indian
Sex: Male
Work Experience:
Currently, I'm working with the financial market regulator in India (Like the SEC in the US), wherein my job revolves around investigating all sorts of illicit money collection schemes in India. There's a lot of people in India who happily pile away their savings in sham operations, and the last one we busted had raised about $ 10 bn before we got a wind of it. The work that I do is a heady mix of financial analysis, legal research and policy. I'm also authoring our research paper on different investment schemes utilizing crypto-currencies, and what the government can do tackle this.
It was hard to get into this place; there were 75 positions for which a 100,000 people had applied. Also, since this qualifies as public service, promotions are more time-bound than they are merit-based; I'm due for one by mid-next year.
Before this, I've worked for a big rating agency for a year, wherein I was pitching to the firm's clients for its credit risk assessment.
Total work ex - 5 years
Education:
Undergrad: Engineering GPA; 58 % ( I really, really **** this one up)
Master's: MBA (from an Indian B-school; Top 15) GPA: 3.00
Why another MBA ?
1) I feel like I'm in this rut; I've been doing something very niche for the past 3 years, and don't think I can switch industries easily, even with my current MBA. I don't intend on staying the public sector in the long-term - the relatively lower compensation being a major factor.
2) The first MBA was straight after my undergrad degree (something very common in India). I really didn't understand much; courses like Organizational Behavior just did not make any sense to me.
3) Relocation to the US or Europe.
Extra-curriculars:
1) Triathlete - I've already done a half iron; hoping to compete in the Ironman tri early next year.
2) Volunteer work with a non-profit doing something I really care about- getting more people to cycle/ commute to work, which goes a long way towards reducing congestion and air pollution in big cities, something that the third world is continually struggling with.
3) Not sure if this counts, but I did ride my bicycle across Europe. Stayed with a lot of local hosts along the way, and learnt about different places and the people in it; this was something that was deeply enriching on a personal level, and I'm not sure if I should be mentioning this on my application.
Stats:
GMAT: 750 (Q50, V41)
This was a long post. If you've managed to get this far, thank you for your time and attention.
