Received a Graduate Certificate in Credit Analysis - prestigious University - GPA 3.7 (12 month program)
Work Experience
1. 2.5 years working as a credit specialist at a major bank in New York (department closed/lay-off)
2. currently have 1 year temping/contracting position in a unrelated field
ExtraCurriculars
1. Volunteer- working with adults to improve basic computer skills/ job readiness
Reason for B-School
Strong interest in credit analysis on the banking side. I would like to transition into a credit analysis/ or associate role after completing my MBA/ or M.S. degree. I am considering a program with an Accounting or Finance focus to better position myself to move into one of these careers later on.
My top five schools:
-Rutgers University
-Fordham University
-Pace University
-Baruch College
-Iona College
* How can I make my application stand out?
* How do I address my extremely low GPA in my application? also, does this take me out of the running for a lot of programs/schools? (somewhat worried)

The GPA will pose a problem for schools -- some even have 3.0 cutoffs -- so you need to address it in a variety of ways. Make sure that the adcom gets to know you as a person (essays, school visits, interview, personal letters). Also use the "optional" essay to explain that you recognize that your GPA was low, that it doesn't represent your current academic potential, and give reasons/specifics to back that up. For example, pointing at the GPA for your certificate. Depending on your timeframe, you can take part time business courses and get A's to show how you've changed.
