Contrra2:
Q: I read online that HBS, for example, only admits 1-3% of Indian applicants. Is that true?
A: We can't validate that statistic.
Q: If so, how much might my background / interest in media set me apart vs what I imagine is a mostly engineering pool of Indians?
A: It will help, but keep in mind your profile is tagged in all ways based on components such as age, gender, ethnicity/nationality, industry, etc.
Q: Does it matter that I have a green card and live permanently in the US?
A: It matter might but marginally at best. I wouldn't count on it being a differentiator nor should it really change your approach to your applications.
Q: I've also job-hopped a bit, and while I can explain that in my essays / interviews, I wonder how much that sets me back.
A: It will not set you back if you put together a cohesive and clear narrative. Mostly anything can be explained if done properly.
Q: Overall, how would you view my profile?
A: Quite strong. HBS, GSB, etc. will be particularly tough. Outside of the Stern, the other schools on your list are not a given. You should apply all in R1 and consider backup options for R2.
