Hi Admissionado, I'm hoping you could share your thoughts regarding my chances at an early career MSBA/MSF program. Thanks in advance!
1) Basic demographic info:
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Nationality: USA
2) Educational Background:
Undergrad Major: Information Systems, T50 non target school
Undergrad GPA: 3.68
GMAT: 710
(how much does the quant/verbal split matter for these programs? I have two 710s and I'm not sure which one to use)
3) Work experience: Internship with a big 4 cybersecurity team
4) Extracurriculars:
Research assistant for a computational finance research paper
Academic fellow for one of my school's economic fellowship programs
Officer in a club that helps international students adjust to life in the US
Fluent native speaker of both Chinese and English
5) Short/Long term goals: Have a strong desire to get published in a peer reviewed journal so I can pursue a PhD in the near future

HI there! Thanks for reaching out. I think you have a good shot at these schools given what you shared here, but if you plan to pursue a PhD I'd consider applying to PhD programs now & be ready to talk about what exactly you hope to do in your career once you have the PhD. The adcom wants to know what you plan to do with your CAREER, not just which grad program you want to apply to next. And the specifics of that career (i.e., the title you want in the ST & LT, what you hope to accomplish in those roles, and WHY that is your passion) will dictate your argument for why a particular program (masters or PhD) is the best fit for you to fill the skill gaps you need to fill to get there. So my advice would be to think through what you plan to do once you've got the PhD, and go ahead & apply directly to PhD programs now! Thinking through the specifics of your career goals will also help you decide if you want to pursue a MSBA vs. a MSF since those degrees will prepare you for two very different career paths.
To answer your question re the GMAT, the split does matter & for the most part quant is the most important of the two.

Hi Jon, thank you for your feedback! The reason I am not applying to a PhD program directly is because my school's reputation frankly isn't that great, and my end goal is a tenure track position with a PhD from an m7 school. In addition, I am graduating from my undergrad one year early so I thought it would be best for me to use that one year on a master's program instead. With a master's, I would either apply directly to a PhD program or work in industry for a couple years before applying for a PhD.
I have also since narrowed down my list to the following schools:

-MSBA
2. UCLA
-MSBA
3. UT
-MSBA
4. CMU
-MISM
5. LBS
-MAM
6. Duke
-MQM
Which programs do you think I have the best of chance of getting into?
