I would appreciate if you could review my profile.
· Demographics (nationality, gender): 27 year old Canadian white male, working in the United Kingdom, lived in 4 different countries/3 continents, applying R1 2021
· Education:
- Top 5 Canadian School, 3.33, Honors BA with a Minor in Economics, Deans Honor list
- Master of Management, top Canadian program, 3.91, Deans Honor list - Dual degree with top European program, specialization in Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment
· GMAT or GRE (include section breakdown):
Expected 680-700 (Q42-44, V42-44)
· Work experience (highlight amount of work experience, industries, roles, promotions, special accomplishments, international exposure):
1 year 6 months: Program Director of International Not-for-profit (focused on reducing plastic waste)
- Promoted from single project (400k Pound budget) to oversee 1.6M pound series of projects in 3 countries
- One of two program directors - working directly with governments and MNCs in each country, personally working with one country president and over seven local governors
- Oversee in-country teams of 4, 5, and 2
- Work has generated plastic escapement from entering oceans equivalent to over an Eiffel tower a year (by weight) and featured in international news and scientific journals
- For work relating to Oceans and plastics, was selected to the advisory council for the UN Ocean program - specifically being a director of the Corporate Sustainability section
1 year 6 months: International Strategy Consultant (sustainability focused boutique consultancy)
- Received three promotions, fastest progression from Analyst to Consultant in company history
- Worked for three of the world's largest commodity traders on three separate continents, leading to livelihood improvements of over 100% for producers (in terms of income from production), with downstream actors recovering their investment in less than 10 years
- Work led me to being named a G20 Young Global Changer and a Young Global Leader by the Sustainable Ocean Alliance
6+ summers: Commercial Fisherman
- Worked in the Pacific Northwest as a commercial fisherman, using the funds generated to pay my tuition
- Frequently was sought out for experience in fisheries, being hired by the largest US telecom company to manage their project on seafood traceability while undertaking my graduate degree
- Presented my fisheries experience at the FAO on invitation from the FAO Director
· Extracurricular activities (highlight notable undergraduate and post-undergraduate ones):
- Semi professional American Football Player in Europe
- 5 year Varsity athlete, receiving a partial scholarship and being named one of the representatives of varsity athletics at the university
- Mentor for a sustainable ocean focused incubator
- Marketing manager for TEDx event
- Head coach of Universities American Football program in Europe (over 40 active participants on a weekly basis) I was in charge of the practices, schedule, position coaching and overall program management
- Board advisor for start-up that raised 1.2M pounds in 2019
- Helped family business transition at the beginning of COVID from B2B to B2C to save business and in the process provided donations to least privileged members in the community that contributed over to feeding thousands
· Post-MBA goals:
- I would like to bring my experience and sustainability in Europe, and the developing world, to North America. The integration of ESG into all facets of work is becoming ever more apparent and I would like to be on the cutting edge of this. Thus, my initial focus would be on sustainable investments, working with funds focused on ESG and blue/green bonds and helping them understand the on-the-ground impacts needed the ways in which their current focus is successful or not.
· Target schools:
Stanford, Haas, Said, Judge, Kellogg (1 year), Ross, and LBS
· Any specific questions you would like answered by our team:
Can you help me sort my target schools into different groups depending on how possible it is for me to get it? What do you think is a weak point in my profile, I know my GMAT is below the standard, but does the Masters compensate. I also know it is uncommon for those with Masters educations in business to get an MBA but I feel during my Masters I did not gain the suitable experience or knowledge I realize is necessary for the corporate finance or management consulting space. What can I do between now and the time I apply to strengthen my profile? Knowing COVID will impact admissions (making it more challenging likely) what should I focus on - I would likely have to give up one of my commitments to improve my GMAT but I feel that focusing on my international development work may be more impactful than a few GMAT points.

Hi, and thanks for writing. You have an intriguing background! As you noted, it is uncommon for those with a MiM to apply to MBA programs, so you'll need to explain fully in your applications why you need an MBA at this point in your career to attain your goals.
The average GMAT score for Stanford and Haas is between 720-730 and those programs are very competitive as is, so I think they would be a stretch with your current score. For the others (aside from perhaps Said and Judge) I think a 710+ would help your chances.
Aside from that, you do have a very well-rounded profile, with impactful and progressive work experience and a track record of extracurricular leadership. I think the keys to your candidacy will be to execute very strong applications that explain the motivations behind your career goals and make a strong case for why each MBA program is a good fit for you based on its culture and resources within and outside of the classroom (which will require thorough research and speaking with multiple students/alumni). I'd also think about chartering a short-term career path that would lay the groundwork for your long-term ambitions - since you don't have investment experience yet (as far as I can see) perhaps a post-MBA role in banking or asset management?
