I would love some thoughts on my profile! Thanks in advance.
24 year old female (USA)
GMAT 720 (Q47:V41:IR7:AWA5)
Undergrad GPA: 3.94 in Biology
Masters GPA: 4.0 in Agronomy (plant and soil science)
Both undergrad and masters were from a top ten public university, top 30 national university.
I was able to finish my undergrad degree in two years, and start my masters at 20. Including the work experience I have from my masters (working 40+ hours a week in a lab and greenhouse/research setting), I have four years of total experience. I currently work as a lab analyst for an agriculture company, where I have been for the last two years. This is quite a small company, so there isn’t much room for movement; however, I have taken on more responsibilities and new roles. I was also able to lead some research projects/groups of people during my masters. Originally I took my current job with the knowledge that after a few years I could take the directors place when he retired. But I have realized this company is too small for me and will not let me achieve some of my goals. I see a lot of potential for innovation in agriculture, but I need to be at a bigger company to take part in it.
While in college I was on the equestrian team, I have been an avid horseback rider my entire life, and since my masters I have become a volunteer poll worker/phone banker during elections.
I have recently decided I would like to apply for the admissions round this fall. I think now is the right time for and MBA because I have done a lot of the hands-on work that goes into agriculture. I would love to work for a bigger company where I can make decisions based on the knowledge I have developed while working. Ideally, I would love to end up working for and ag company interested in innovation at some point in my career. However, I am fine with my job coming out of the MBA not being with an ag company as well. I know it will take time to build the necessary skills and business knowledge that I am lacking, and I would be willing to work in any industry for this. I just feel like I have a lot to offer and I won’t be able to tap into it if I stay in my current role. I believe I am most interested in general management, strategy, or leadership, but I think I would need to take a few classes to confirm this.
The schools I am considering applying to include Berkeley, Northwestern, NYU, Columbia, Stanford, Washington, and potentially Harvard. Do these seem reasonable?
My lack of experience is what I could see being a problem, but I hope I can spin it and also sell them on my unique background.
