Hello
Applicant Lab,
I was wondering if I could receive some pointers on my profile, and some general guidance. I’m looking to apply for an MBA this year for the 2024 intake.
Profile
• Demographic – Indian, Male, 25 yo (26 in August)
• Education – Madras University (RKM Vivekananda College) - 70%, Majored in Bachelor of Commerce (Specialization in Finance and Accounting). 3 Year UG degree
• GMAT – 690. Q46, V39. Looking to take this up to a 730-750 by July-August.
Work Experience - [Current Designation] Associate Vice President - Investment Strategy
• 5 Years of Work Experience in the Financial Services industry. Specifically Private Wealth Management and Investment Advisory. I work directly under the two partners of the firm. Good career trajectory outshining most of a similar age/experience group in the industry
• My role is primarily that of a decision maker, ideator of new investment ideas, and capital allocator. My team and I decide what goes into each client’s advisory portfolio.
• Actively involved in managing a multi asset PMS (Portfolio Management service) with assets of around $40 Million (the fund was started 2 years ago). My role in the fund is to do with investment strategy and capital allocation (daily management). The fund is one of the two flagship funds in my firm (there are four funds in total)
• Responsible for an average annual growth of 47% in advisory assets over a 4 year period.
• Led the bond investment advisory desk and accumulated assets of over $10 Million over 3 years (this was a small and neglected part of the business which I tried to revive and succeeded)
• International / Multicultural exposure – Interacted with industry leaders and clients/leads from around the world. Rich multicultural exposure with colleagues and clients from across India.
Extracurriculars –
• Treasurer of the Rotract Club during college. Part of organising various tournaments, blood drives, and I was in-charge of recruiting, and delegating work to new recruits.
• I host various investor education programs for beginner investors and young adults, investor awareness and retirement planning for middle aged investors.
Post MBA Goals
• Management / Strategy consulting (1st preference) or Product Management
Target Schools
• Kellogg
• Booth
• Haas - Berkeley
• Foster - Washington
• Darden
• NYU Stern
• Columbia
• MIT Sloan
• LBS
• Imperial
• Alliance - MBS
Would a higher GMAT help me with a realistic chance in getting into these schools, given my Work Experience / Extracurriculars, and Post MBA Goals? Also, please do let me know if there are other schools I should look to target.
Cheers and Thanks a ton!,
