Thank you for taking the time out to assess and offer those words of advice. You werent at all a downer and I realize that I am behind/below average in the two objective metrics on the application. After sleeping on it I have come to terms with the fact that I havent seen that test for the last time and I think I will use the rest of the summer to work on my essays and putting my application together and probably give the GMAT one last go round in the Fall. I need to find out what the disconnect is and why I can score in the 770 range consistently on Prep tests but cant come through on test day. I think its more a question of execution rather than preparation. I realize that Columbia my chances are practically nil at this point and slim at absolute best for Stern and Anderson, do you think I can stand a decent or almost decent shot with a 720+?

Sidebar: I also plan on applying to Anderson, Marshall, Emory via CGSM i just forgot to place it in my original post, not that it would matter that much, just mentioning for truths sake.

Thank you again for reading and assessing my profile as well as for your responses to others as well, I have kept up with them for some time and I truly appreciate what you contribute to the forum.

-Johnny

With a 720, I think you will increase your odds at the top schools you're aiming for. Still not a shoo-in, but nonetheless will help to a certain extent. With a 720 in hand, your next thing to focus on will the the attack of the application. Your essays need to really address the question and connects your experiences with them. You need to turn in a stellar application, which is obviously possible. Letters of recommendation will also help, but your biggest asset that you can still change is your essay (and of course, your GMAT). Once you land an interview, a lot of it will then depend on how you answer and react in the interview. While interviews themselves will not determine one's fate, it will play a significant role in the final decision when someone goes to bat for you in the admissions committee.

Dear Johnn,

I agree with what has been said here. Your work experience and background are impressive but your academic profile is your weakness and you need as much of a boost as you can to convince the admissions counsel that your cognitive skills are solid and your studiousness has sharpened since that time. Your GMAT Verbal section obviously has room for improvement, so I would start there. If you can break the "40" ceiling on the GMAT Verbal you will look much more impressive.

Thank you both for your replies. I do think Im going to give it another go in the Fall, in the mean time I plan on working on my essays and putting together a great application package. I think I will have enough time to do this and still give the GMAT another go. rusty, i agree completely, I think if i can keep maintain my quant level and get my verbal at or even close to that 40 mark i should be in good shape, and thats the plan for next time.

Thanks
