Profile review for isb?
Hello folks 22 year old gnem(bba) here with 9/8/7(i know it's bad).
One internship at a psu another at big 4 currently then will move into wealth management at one of the known firms in the country. Some NGO experience and a few college clubs, have a photography page that I don't use anymore but can prolly get back into it easily as I love photography if it'll boost my ECAs, nothing fancy. Most I'm proud of out of all this is my photography skills lol.
Planning to pursue CFA as well coz the ultimate goal is wealth/asset management (ik both are different I don't mind either)
Goal is isb, ideally wanted to go to the PGP Yl coz better finance roles but I don't think I can create enough spikes by that age as I'm already behind.
Context- fortunate enough to come from a well to do family so loan amount wouldn't be huge if any so roi isn't much of a concern, have a referral at a wealth firm mentioned above so immediate placement wouldn't be an issue even after isb. Want isb for its alumni, brand and the network as the fields I'm targeting are very network heavy. Ofc this is to not say that I am not expecting anything from isb in terms of placements, duh.
If I start working at the wealth firm mentioned above I can prolly give gmat next year apply to pgp YL and have 20+ month of work ex by the time of admission (co'28) but will be 25 by then. (even cfa L3 candidate by then hopefully)
So should I target pgp YL Or wait some years get my CFA levels and charter, work for 3-4 years then apply to 1 year flagship programmes? Which can benefit me more?
Also pls give actionable steps to further my chances in terms of social impact, work ex, ECAs, certifications etc what I should focus on more for a better shot at isb and do average profiles like mine even have a realistic shot at isb?
PS-prolly will get heat for this question but has anyone used admission consultancy for isb and has it worked for anyone?
Looking forward to the replies!!
Dear
Dungeon0310,
From what you have shared about your profile, we just want to begin by saying that you should absolutely approach the application process with the mindset that while past academic performance cannot be changed, there is still
significant potential to make your profile stand out.
There is a lot that can work in your favour—
scoring really well on the GMAT,
showcasing impactful stories from your work experience,
demonstrating initiative to upskill (we are glad to see you are already thinking of pursuing the CFA charter), and being
consistent with your extracurriculars while bringing out what motivates you to pursue them and how they have helped shape different aspects of your personality.
Among the options you are weighing from an application perspective, we would
strongly recommend applying for PGP YL next year. The chances of breaking into finance roles like the ones you mentioned are definitely stronger through the PGP YL route, as it is designed to attract younger professionals with fewer years of experience but strong potential and intent to take on future responsibilities.
Your interest in photography also adds a nice dimension to your profile. If it genuinely reflects who you are and has helped you grow in certain ways, it is absolutely worth bringing back and integrating into your story.
We would be happy to speak with you further to explore how to
most impactfully present your profile and how ISB PGP can serve as a
launchpad for your long-term goals in wealth or asset management.
