Hi All Experts,
New to here, please help to resolve my below query.
I am from a interior village of one of the poor state of India.
I have ~8 years of experience, all in core technology development(C & C++) with companies like Motorola, Samsung. Don't have any over cease experience.
Have below educational qualification.
Age - 31+
10th - 76% (From my Village School)
10+2 - 52% (From my district college)
B-Tech(Comp Sci) - 71% (From one of the top private college.)
2 Years gap in 10+2 to B-Tech.
Currently I am a Chief Engg in my current organization with good pay. I want to prepare well for GMAT(At-least 1.5 years) so that I can join some good B-School in USA after 2 years.
Can any one help me out in my below query?
1. Is it good idea to attend B-School after 10+ years of exp?
2. How much score is needed to get in top 20 colleges in USA.(Is it 700+)
3. How much effort I need to put daily to achieve 700+, (I am from state board so poor in Verbal, although don't have problem in communication. )
From where I should start preparing?
4. How much money needed for same?

Hi Kishore,
Let me answer your queries one by one:
1. Is it good idea to attend B-School after 10+ years of exp?
The average work experience at most US B-schools is around 5-6 years. So, you would be at the higher end of the spectrum when you apply. The challenge with applying with 10+ years of experience is that schools may be worried about your employability. i.e. whether you will be able to find a job and pay that you're happy with.
It is best if you start your GMAT preparation now and apply next year (you will apply in Sep 2015 and join college in July/Aug 2016). Don't put off your plans too long.
2. How much score is needed to get in top 20 colleges in USA.(Is it 700+)
Yes - with experience such as yours, a 700+ score would make yours a competitive profile. The higher your GMAT score is above the average of the B-school, the greater your chances of a scholarship.
Secondly, don't go by ranking alone. There are many colleges that offer great programs & employment opportunities but are ranked 20-30 in the US. Keep that on your radar. You can check out this article series on the factors to consider while shortlisting schools:

From where I should start preparing?
In general, Indians, especially engineers, are more comfortable with Quant than they are with Verbal. So you are not alone in this.
(As an aside, our company CrackVerbal was itself founded out of this need!
)We recommend that you study for 2-3 hours every day but put in consistent efforts - don't overload your weekends and stay away from the books during the weekdays.
Most of our students prepare for 3-4 months before taking the GMAT.
Second, stick to official material. GMAC, the body that conducts the GMAT exam, has made a lot of material available for practice. Begin with The Official Guide to the GMAT Review (OG) 13th Edition. This has around 900 Quant and Verbal questions. Then move onto the Quant Review and Verbal Review (2 more official books with ~300 Quant and Verbal qns respectively.)
You can go to https://www.mba.com to take mock full-length tests which use the same adaptive algoirthm as the GMAT.

4. How much money needed for same?
A typical 2-year MBA in the US will cost you upwards of 70Lakhs including living expenses. State universities are less expensive than private institutions. And with a suitably high GMAT score, you will get scholarships from many universities.
