26 male Chinese Canadian - Lived in a few countries in Asia before moving to Canada 12 years ago.
GMAT: 700 (the first attempt, will take another one in June) GPA: 77%/62%/74%/80% (Year 1 to 4). Some family struggles in the second year. Final year Deans Honor List. Bad GPA.
Degree: Bachelor of Applied Science (Geotechnical Engineering), Top 3 Canadian University, UBC
While in school: Led two students teams, one of which won a student competition at the regional and national level. The other team participated internationally, 1 of 2 teams representing Canada.
Work Experience:
2 Years with a Canadian consulting engineering firm (top 5 in the discipline)
3.5 Years with a British consulting engineering firm (global top 10, 60k employee)
- Working as a project engineer in the oil & gas, mining and civil infrastructure sector. Project CapEx generally bet C$100 and C$500M.
- Involved with BD, led large pursuits, fees >$1M, selected as hipo in the region. Participated in the front line leadership development program and is also the HSE coordinator for the office.
4 years of full time and 1.5 years of internship, 5.5 years combined at matriculation.
Community Involvement and Others:
- Former Air Cadet. Fell in love with aviation and have never stopped pursuing this hobby (10+ years and 4 licenses later). Currently, a commercial pilot license holder working towards my instructor rating. Looking to teach in my spare time.
- Founded a local NPO to assist immigrants in securing jobs in the engineering sector. Helping to reduce the level of un/underemployment.
- Mentor to engineering students at my alma mater.
Post-MBA goals: Consulting - Particularly in capital projects, infrastructure advisory or strategy and operation in the O&G, mining sector. Alternatively, in infrastructure investment.
Target schools: Struggling to decide where I should apply to. US Top 10 is a stretch and expensive. Considering Rotman or UK schools, maybe Top15 US? Applying in 2019, program start 2020.
