Hey Jon,

Thank you for your reply.

Well, I have a farm that we produce wheat and cotton on, and I also happen to have a mango orchard. the orchards is spread over 35 acres whereas the farm is approximately 30 acres. The number of employees that I have is between 15-30, as it varies from some full time employees which work all round the year whereas there are some part time employees which are are hired according to the need and the harvesting and the sowing season. As for the turnover, we are able to get two crops a year, each lasting for six months whereas the mango produce is once a year. If we lease out our land, we are guaranteed a revenue of around $30k to $40k, depending upon the weather conditions and the natural disasters (storms, heavy rains etc), and we have been relying on such means of subsistence prior to my engagement in my business. However, since I have started doing it on my own, I am able to increase that revenue to between $50k to $60k. But there is a potential for more if I can market it outside Pakistan as Pakistani mangoes are well renowned worldwide.

I believe an MBA will hone my management and feasibility skills, and I will be able to look after my business and market it in a better way. I will also have an opportunity to interact with other professionals and will learn a great deal about the economies and market of their countries. My short term goals will be to market and sell my produce internationally whereas in ten years time, I hope to see myself managing and looking after an increased size of an orchard (that I plan on renting from other people) and thus, this way, sell my produce in the international market.

I will be obliged if you could share your thoughts as to how good/grand and appealing this story is and which schools will I be most suitable for depending upon my profile.

Thanks,

Hey there,
Thanks for the detail!
Okay, so right now from a US perspective, your farm is a small family business. Now it's great that you have taken this (successful) step to change the way the farm is run by taking on more risk, but if you are to succeed in your goals, you will have to think BIGGER - I know that 50-60K is a lot of money in Pakistan, but for the US it's not that much - so they will want to see that you have ideas/dreams/plans for the future - if you stick with your family's ag business, then it should be EXPANSION first of all - more land, more produce, more workers, better efficiency, and so on. You should also make sure that an MBA makes sense for you (rather than an agricultural degree) and explain why (like I said your story is unique... but on the other hand it may not be clear why you need an MBA)

I hope all this makes sense,
Best,
Jon
