Demographics (nationality, gender): US male, 29

· Education (undergraduate institution, GPA, major - high school/entrance exams not needed): University of Utah, ~3.4 GPA in Business Management

· Other coursework or post-undergraduate education: Certified Scrum Product Owner

· GMAT or GRE (include section breakdown): 690 Q47/38, pending retake

· Work experience (highlight amount of work experience, industries, roles, promotions, special accomplishments, international exposure): ~6 years. 4 years out of college at smaller/unknown tech company working in data mgmt - promo at 2.5 years. Had exposure to intl clients. Last 2.5 years at F150 company (industrial/comm manufacturing) working in product strategy. Work fairly regularly with product teams in India, China, and Brazil.

· Extracurricular activities (highlight notable undergraduate and post-undergraduate ones): limited. I joined a ski instructor program while in college where I taught kids how to ski over two seasons. I've joined various volunteer events over the years, but nothing that carried over month to month, outside of a recent mentorship program in which I mentor local high school students (it kicked off last month).

· Post-MBA goals: pivot back into tech (Google, MSFT, Amazon) and join as a Product Manger. Also, interested in eventually starting a business in residential and maybe commercial real estate.

· Target schools: this is where I have questions. I'm thinking Anderson, McCombs, and Foster as target schools, Ross and Tuck as stretch schools. I still have two GMATs to take and have tested around 710-720. Depending on where I land, I may have a chance at an M7. Obviously I want to give my recommenders as much info as I can, but part of me wants to pick a 6th school depending on my test outcomes.

My name is Shimri Winters, I head the strategy here at ARINGO MBA Admissions Consulting

You have a very interesting profile! From what I can see:
    Academics – the University of Utah is a good known university, 3.4 is fine (don’t worry about this!)

    GMAT - Well, 690 is mediocre 😊… but with your profile, should be enough for some schools! but if you are retaking… the higher the better of course

    Work Experience – looks like you have a very solid professional background. A small company with a promotion, now a big company. I love the fact that you were promoted and the fact you have worked with international clients and teams from all over the world!

    Extracurricular activities – well – nothing too exciting, but you do have some volunteering activities and if we add this to some hobbies, we can pull this off!

    Your career goals – bang on! Product manager in tech is exactly the route I was thinking of when I read your profile., try to emphasize staying in companies within similar industries to the one you have worked in

    School wish list – I like your list a lot!
    With the 690, I would target exactly the schools you mentioned: UCLA, Mccombs, and Foster. I love all three and their strategic locations within huge tech hubs! Ross and Tuck are very good choices too, less technical of course, but more “classic top 10 MBAs” (you could add Duke or Cornell to this list). In my eyes, with strong apps, these schools are within reach (so not stretch at all!) we have some 670s that got into Duke this year and have received interviews at Cornell and Tuck, so 690 with a good app? Doable! And if you score a 710++ you could go for MIT, Kellogg, Berkeley etc.

All in all, sounds like you have a solid profile, a very realistic school wish list, and a good drive to do an MBA next year! For me, a perfect candidate 😊

Thank you very much for your evaluation ARINGO, that makes me feel more confident in my profile and school selection. Any thoughts on when I should pull the trigger on a 6th school? My next GMAT is scheduled at the end of November and I was thinking I could follow up with my recommenders at that point to bring up my final selection. This would still give them a month for the added school and I can better determine if an M7 is in the cards.
