Hi
Dipen101,
Thank you for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. Starting with stats, your undergrad GPA is quite low, but you can compensate for it with your solid GMAT score. As you are retaking GMAT, I suggest target 720+ to maximize your chances. Plus, your CA tag will definitely exhibit your potential. On the work front, good career progression. Working in Big 4 must have given you a quality experience and opportunity to showcase your ability. It seems really good, like dealing with different clients and working with them globally. You do have some international exposure, try to give your profile a global perspective with the help of it. Regarding your ECs, you can speak about motorcycling. ECs are all about that, adcoms want to know different aspects of your personality. So, you can share your experience and how it has impacted your life (even if it’s small). Also, you can share your teaching experience and motivation behind it.
Answering your questions:
1. Would love some advice on how to better present my post-MBA goals.
It's good to see you've identified a gap in your profile and have a purpose of pursuing an MBA. You only need to demonstrate how the particular school will help you in achieving your goals. You may want to read an article on
how to frame practical post-MBA goals essays, you will get some insights.
2. Is UNC Kenan-Flagler a good choice considering my consulting goals. I like its focus on case study methodology. Would you advise against applying there?
UNC MBAs Tech (18% of the Class of 2020), which had been the leading industry for UNC MBAs since 2017, fell behind finance (19%) last year. Consulting was again third at 16%. When it comes to Emory, consulting is still where Goizueta places the majority of its graduates, but it has dropped significantly from almost half of the Class of 2019, 45 % to 34 %in 2020. For Darden, by industry, 39% of the Class of 2020 entered roles in consulting. I think you should research about the schools you are targeting and expand your school list to balance your chances.
3. Looking for suggestions for more schools to look at. (Internship option and scholarships are important to me)
You can look at some top b-schools such as LBS, INSEAD, and HEC. These are also great choices for consulting.
Overall you have a good profile. I would need more details about your work experience and international exposure as well to find your major USPs. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and shortlist b-schools for you. Feel free to
book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Demographics (nationality, gender): Indian, Male, 28
· Education: B. Com. from a state university. Overall CGPA - 7.25/10
· Other coursework or post-undergraduate education: Chartered Accountant from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)
· GMAT or GRE (include section breakdown): Currently sitting on a score of 690 (V40, Q44, AWA-4, IR-3). Planning to reappear and target 720
· Work experience:
I have an overall post-qualification experience of 4+ years. I've been working with one of the Big Fours in the Business Consulting Team for the past 3 years and had one promotion in year 2. I largely cater to clients who are Indian IT majors in the global regulatory compliance advisory space. So I get a fair amount of international exposure such as working with local employees of clients' subsidiaries globally.
· Extracurricular activities: Not much to quote here. However, I am a motorcycling enthusiast and have been part of a club for a couple of years. During my graduate years, I used to teach a small group of underprivileged kids in my neighbourhood. Nothing to show for it though.
· Post-MBA goals: In the short term, I plan to move into strategy consulting working for a boutique consulting firm. I have already been working in risk advisory and have had the opportunity to look at strategy consulting projects in other verticals that interest me. However, moving to those verticals is proving to be difficult without an MBA.
I also want to look at entrepreneurship as an immediate post MBA goal. However, I do not come from wealth or a business-oriented family so I'm wary of my entrepreneurial capabilities.
In the long term, I wish to promote a pro bono consulting firm.
I plan to US or UK post my MBA (I feel these are consulting hubs for the world).
· Target schools: 1. UVA Darden 2. CMU Tepper 3. UNC Kenan-Flagler 4. Emory - Goizueta 5. Alliance Manchester
· Other information:
Have had the opportunity to manage a team of three only very recently.
