Thank you in advance!
1. What level of schools should I be aiming for here?
2. How would that level shift were I to wait a year and apply with an additional year of work experience?· Demographics:
White US Male· Education:
State School (Ranked between 150-200 nationally) 3.96 GPA (Highest GPA in my college within the University) with an Arts Education Major· Other coursework or post-undergraduate education:
Additional Coursework at that institution in Political Science and Economics (Highest grades for those courses), Certification in Nonprofit Management from UT Austin· GMAT:
Official Score: 720 (48Q, 42V, 8IR, 6AWA)· Work experience:
2YOE (at matriculation Fall 2023) at a Political Nonprofit, Multiple promotions in that time from an internship to current title, Program Manager, lots of national travel to college campuses. I've run the internship program and directly managed between 1-2 interns per semester. I'm a "key project personnel" on a $1.3 million grant we recently received for which I hold many operational responsibilities. · Extracurricular activities:
Undergrad: President of a 30-person student organization, multiple leadership roles in a couple other organizations; post: Helped start a nonprofit (incorporation, 501c3 filing) where I, with the exec director, managed 25 volunteers, and I currently sit on the board.· Post-MBA goals:
Looking to transition to the business side of the tech industry and broaden my somewhat vocational undergrad education· Target schools:
I'm struggling with this currently. It's difficult to see how/if less work experience can be outweighed with scores, GPA, and extracurriculars.Hi ChandlerJS,
While your College and Employers have not been high brands, I feel your excellent work with them can help you stand out. What is really needed though is how compelling your story is, along with a well-aligned and mature career path, and thought clarity on how the MBA would help.
I strongly feel that in the list of your aspirational schools, you could aim for the likes of Duke, Tuck etc, while a UCLA would also value your profile well. Yale doors may also be more open, albeit with a higher GMAT.
Hope that helps. Ping and connect on my LinkedIn for a FREE, 1:1 session to answer your questions, and discuss your profile.
