Brazilian, Male, 29 years old.
GMAT 700 (49Q - 74% / V37 - 82% / AWA 5.5 - 80% / IR 7 - 82%). Considering retaking to get 720+.
Education:
Top 1 university in Latin America, Major: Economics. Average performance (6.3 out of 10), mainly due to having done internships and the CFA Level 1 while in school.
6-month exchange program in Europe studying business and finance.
CFA Charterholder.
Work Experience: 5 Years (full time - apart from internships).
Internships:
2.5 years combined in top tier US and swiss global banks - São Paulo, Brazil.
Full-time Experience:
1.5 years in the largest investment bank in Latin America. São Paulo, Brazil.
- Graduate trainee and promoted to Analyst after 1 year.
1.5 years as investment banking analyst at a top global boutique. São Paulo, Brazil.
2 years in one of the largest independent asset managers in LatAm. Santiago, Chile.
- Promoted after ~1.5 years.
- Current job.
Others:
- English teacher to low-income communities in São Paulo (Brazil) for 2.5 years. Part of an Brazilian NGO.
- Native Portuguese; fluent English and Spanish.
I would like to have a grasp on my chances for some of the top 10 MBAs: HBS, Stanford, Wharton, CBS, Booth, Kellog, Insead.

You have some great credentials to apply to a top 10 MBA program, coming from the top university in Latin America and working at one of the largest investment banks and asset management firms in LatAm. Your GMAT score is good since you cleared 700, but anything higher would be even better. You also have 5 years of work experience, which meets the average for most of the top programs. Yo are on the older side, but not out of the range for MBA students. That said, I am concerned about your less than stellar GPA. You would need to have good reasons, which the internships would help explain, and it also depends on what subjects you got low scores in. Hopefully they're not in quantitative or analytical subjects. If so, you would have to compensate for them by demonstrating that you have those skill sets through your work experiences. Furthermore, I am curious as to how many years it took you to graduate from college. With 5 years of work experience post college at 29 years old, I'm assuming that you gradated at 24? If this is common for your school, then that's fine but otherwise it would also need an explanation.
Your strengths and weakness lie in your work experience. You have great experiences in financial services validated by a couple of promotions, which is a plus. However, it also makes you one of thousands of well qualified MBA applicants with financial services backgrounds. What it's going to come down to is how well you differentiate yourself through your goals, your personal stories via the essays, and your recommendations.
Based on the general information you've provided, I would say that you could be competitive for a top 10 MBA program. However, I would need to know more about your background, goals, and major achievements to be able to give yo a better assessment of your chances at individual schools.
