Hi everyone!
I'm new here and still in the early phases of the MBA application preparation process (currently studying for the GMAT), but I wanted to get feedback early while I still have some time to make some changes for the better. Also, after reading my profile, if you have any input on my questions at the bottom, I'd really appreciate it!
1) Basic Demographic Info: 27, Male, American, White
2) Educational Background:
Undergrad Degree:
B.S. Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management (Japanese Minor, Web Development Certificate)
School: Western Washington University
GPA: 3.38 (excluding Freshman/Sophomore classes covered by community college Associate Degree [Running Start])
3.62 (inclusive of above mentioned community college classes)
Post-Bacc Degree:
B.S. Computer Science
School: Oregon State University
GPA: 4.0
[Completed while working full-time.]
GMAT score: Not yet taken. Aiming for 720-740.
3) Work experience:
Current Role: Procurement Agent, Strategy & Strategic Sourcing
Promotions: 2 (not including Intern -> Level 1)
Industry: Aerospace (Boeing)
Years of Experience: 6
Notable Achievement: Won an award for leading a team in an RFP project that resulted in hundreds of millions in direct company savings.
Previously interned at PACCAR for a summer, also in a purchasing role.
4) Extracurriculars:
Have sung/wrote/recorded in a progressive metal band for the last 6 years that has released two full-length albums, garnered significant critical acclaim and features both online and in major industry print publications, achieved over 100k streams/views on Spotify/YouTube/etc., have full line of shirts/vinyl/CDs/etc., played live with noteworthy acts, etc. [Point being it's more than just a garage band.]
Have been playing guitar for the last 15 years in addition to singing since I was a kid.
In my undergrad I spent 1-2 hours a day during the week volunteering in Japanese exchange student classrooms teaching English and was an officer in our school's APICS chapter.
Studied Japanese in an immersion language school in Tokyo for three months in 2008 [currently conversationally fluent]
Have sporadically volunteered to teach English to young Japanese children over Skype and when in Japan over the last five years for a small private business.
5) Short/Long Term Goals: Become a management consultant at MBB or Deloitte either for the long haul or with an eventual exit into product management at a top tech firm (going straight from MBA to product management in tech is also an option and depends a bit on what school I attend)
6) Schools: Most of the top ten + Ross
Questions:
- Undergrad GPA: I did the first two years of my undergrad as a Running Start student at a community college. On applications, can I roll that GPA into my university GPA? My university transcript carried over the credits and Associate Degree but started my GPA over (so I don't get the boost from the easier earlier classes).
- Post-Bacc: What is the best way to point out my post-bacc degree on an application? Do they usually just get noted in essays, or will there be multiple undergrad institution/GPA slots in the education section of the applications?
- GMAT Score: Would a score in the 720-740 range be sufficient for top schools, considering the rest of my profile?
- Promotions: Do people generally count shifting from being an intern to an entry level employee a promotion? (I just want to get the number right if this is a field I need to complete on an application.)
- Extracurriculars: I went into a lot of detail with the band as it does suck up most of my free time. I'm sure it checks the "interesting hobby" box at the least, but I'm wondering if it is significant enough to make up for a lack of more traditional recent community service experience. With 5-6 months left until Round 1 applications, I can figure something out, but I don't want to go overkill and start a non-profit or something if I'd be better served just studying more for the GMAT.
