Hi,
I would like a
profile review and have a few specific questions regarding my candidacy for the top 10 MBA programs. I have laid out my background information below. Please let me know if you need anything else. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Demographics:
- Indian male, American citizen, 25 years old
Education:
- Undergrad: Rutgers University, Majored in Finance and Accounting with a minor in Economics, GPA: 3.94/4.00 (Paid through college myself by working throughout undergrad as a cashier at fast food restaurants and teller at a bank)
- Passed all 3 levels of the CFA exams (Don't have 4 years of work experience yet to earn the charter)
GMAT:
- Second time: 690 (Q48,V37, IR 8)
- First time: 670 (Q49, V31, IR 8)
Work experience
- At one of the top US financial institutions in NYC for 3.5 years
- Part of a rotational program for the first 2 years, working in strategy (inner consulting teams)
- Currently an Associate on a strategy team focused on loan valuation and balance sheet optimization (I don't code myself but my team does)
- Going for Senior Associate end of the year
Extracurricular activities:
- Passionate about financial literacy. Joined a volunteer organization about a year ago but have only actually volunteered once (teaching young kids)
- Joined a high school student mentoring program couple of months ago where we meet every Saturday
- Have done recruiting and mentoring at work
Post-MBA goals:
- Break into front office roles, equity research to be specific
- Also want to use it as a networking opportunity to think about my future
Target schools:
- Top 10 schools (NYU as "realistic") - I personally don't think it's otherwise worth it
Specific questions:
- What does my profile look like overall? Is top 10 a realistic goal? If not, what are the things holding me back? (I presume the Indian males in Finance pool is quite steep)
- I just took my GMAT again (690) and didn't score as well as I wanted to (Messed up timing in Math). The plan was to apply by December end for the Sept 2020 year. Thus, I don't believe I have time to take it for the third time. Should I push back MBA by a year and take the GMAT again?
- I was hoping my other academic achievements (high undergrad GPA and CFA) helps with below 720 GMAT
Thank you for the help!
