i'm having a difficult time understanding / distinguishing between they, their, and there.
There: refers to a place?
They: refers to a group of people? But can it refer to objects (ie: property values, animals (Iguanas), etc)
Their: refers to something a group of people have? (ie: Their baseball cap?)
please help....thanks

I'm not good at this either, but I'll try. You are right on there and their.
However, they is a noun that refers to a group of animated objects. Can use with people, animals, but for no reason for objects, such as cars. In that caseyou can use these/those.

Sure, "They" can be used for objects too.
These and those are used to demonstrate time and place.
These refer to something close in time or place and those refer to something far.
