Hello,
I am an assistant district attorney for one of the NYC boroughs, and I would very much like to enroll in a top 10 MBA program. I went to a reputable top 30 universities for undergrad, and to a top 70 ABA accredited law school. My undergraduate GPA was far from stellar (2.9). However, my law school GPA showed vast improvement (3.5). I have yet to officially take the GMAT, but have consistently tested +700. I am 28 years old, bilingual, and have engaged in two small but successful start-ups. In the past couple of years as an ADA, I have developed a strong interest in computer programming and plan to take courses in this area at a local university. In short, I hope to leave the legal profession to pursue a career in business. Although my ADA experience is not business related, I believe many of its skills is transferable. Therefore, I would very much like to hear your thoughts on whether my goal is realistic.
Thanks,
D
Hello there,
Well, it's hard to say whether you would be eligible for Top 10 programs without digging into your work experience deeper. With a low GPA from a non-Ivy school, it will be tough. But it could be surmountable, depending on what you else you have. I think the most interesting thing in your profile is being ADA. I mean, there aren't many ADAs applying to Bschool and your story is likely to be very unique and interesting. The question is (my question is) how do you tie it all together? What are your SPECIFIC postMBA goals? And how does this fit in with the experience you have already accumulated? If you can get a 700+ on your GMAt you'd have some shot at Top 10 schools, although I'd still probably suggest you widen your perspective a bit - To Top 20 schools.
Hope this helps!
