Why do you think an IT background will help you get a job after MBA? After all, most people pursue an MBA to develop a complementary skillset to their work experience. Knowing a programming language is not going to be of much help in say, a finance or consulting job.

Transferable skills such as leadership, team work and operating under stress are what you need to emphasize. Also, leadership doesn't have to involve a managerial position - it can be within a technical project or a even supervising a group of unskilled workers. 'How' & 'Why' is more important than 'What' you did on your job.

That`s part of the advantage of the 2 years MBA, you can do an internship in a new function which gives you credible working experience. Function change is one of the main reasons people do an MBA because the course provides you with knowledge of skills from different functions via its course and the experiences of the student body, and the internship gives yo a chance to practise those newly acquired skills.

However! If its IT specifically taht you want to go in, a lot of people do a Masters in Computer Science which opens the doors to the IT world.
