statement 1 is not sufficient as we do not know if k is negative or positive.

from statement 2 a9 = 10 + k and a7 = 10 - k. either of these can be more than 10 depending on whether k is negative or positive.

combining both statements we know for sure that k is negative. so we can get the answer by determining K

answer is C


oh !!! ... now that we know that OA is B ... here is the reason why it is...

as i said above a9 = 10 + k and a7 = 10 - k .

since a8 is right in the middle of the sequence , either if K is negative or positive, the number of values greater than 10 will be the same. (7 of them)
so B is sufficient. good question this ...

thats really a tricky one... depends if you check this trap on G-day... probably not ;-)
