Here's a possible explanation.
Forget the people who said no or were unsure.
If 200 people said yes to A but not to B and 500 people said yes to A overall, then 500-200=300 people said yes to A and B.
If 300 people said yes to B and A and 400 people said yes to B overall, then 400-300=100 people said yes to B but not to A.
Therefore number of people who said yes to A or B would be 200+300+100=600.
